Nah he only scored against bad teams.

Actually I did consider Des and Tony Morris and decided against them.

This probably sounds very harsh as Des was a great clubman but not as good a player imo as Billy Hamilton (who was virtually unplayable) and Tommy Gaynor (gifted player who could have done so much more eventhough he did win an FAI Cup and a league cup at wembley with Nottm Forest). Des was let go to a then much inferior Galway at one stage and was replaced by John Delamere in the run-in in 1980. Against that he did score home and away v Real Madrid, was a great servant and a great guy. He was a true Limerick legend but as for being in the best ever in my time would just miss out.

Tony Morris was a superb poacher and really burst on the scene with vital goals in the latter half of 78/9 before scoring 19 in the league winning season. Maybe if he had scored the winner at the Dell - he blazed over an open goal from 6 yards with 4 minutes left.... He had of course got the equaliser earlier. Classic goal poacher and probably the best finisher we ever had.

Daithi McMahon would have been close and probably i nthe team had he stayed for longer.

Paddy Shortt was my first Limerick hero but he left in 1972 when I was 5 so my main memories of him are in Waterford and Celtic shirts. The only game I know for sure I was at in 70/1 & 71/2 was Kevin Fitzpatrick's testimonial which was my first game in the stand (as opposed to the popularside where I almost always went). From 72/3 on I went all the time and can remember players, games, goals etc (not all of them obviously)

I had to go with Morris...he was the best finisher I ever saw play for Limerick..bar none. Gary Hulmes wasn't bad either, and Hamilton was...well he was what you'd have expected from a man who played World Cup football. I seriously think that injury robbed Derek McCarthy of a top class career. He had everything except fitness and when he got fit injury got in the way time after time.

Hand, Meaney and Walsh were all shoe-ins to my midfield, as were Ray O'Halloran and Paul Finucane to my defence. Finny was the most naturally talented player that I have seen in a long long time and just got the nod over Storan who I will always remember for that goal in Dalymount, and Paddy Purcell who has given amazing service to the club.
