I don't know any Latin beyond "Romani ite Domum", but does that really explain how if you remove the clause in the middle of that sentence you get "Galway United the paid Administration role at the club is to be discontinued"?

They omitted the words 'have decided that' or similar. Big deal.

I think it would (Poor Student or schumi can possibly confirm one way or the other), but you'd be assuming Leeson first composed the press release in Latin before giving it to his board of underlings directors to translate.

Yes and no. It's not a big deal if you or I do it here. It's kind of unprofessional in a press release though.

Presumably he has since made them write it out 1000 times, and if they failed to do so has cut their balls off.

If you didn't do Latin in school, you have no idea how funny that sketch is. Seriously.

But on the flipside, you're probably better at football...

German copied the grammar nearly wholesale, so yeah, I do.

Told you you wouldn't get it.

It's not about the grammar; it's about the teacher/centurion. My teacher was exactly like in the film (but without the sword and the skirt). The German teacher was normal.

Though maybe he just modelled himself on the film.

My German teacher was a chain-smoking sociopath who punctuated his sentences with the word "rhubarb". He could do a pretty mean impression of that guy too.

I did French, so I can't comment. Our Latin teacher was decent, the Deputy head and we only had him for 2 years. I did medieval latin for post-grad, we'd a rather unhinged pair teaching us. But fun all the same.

    Leeson consults nobody about anything.
