According to the agreement he made with himself while he was CEO, he'll still get paid what he is "owed" over a period of months. He's also still a 50% shareholder.

How did the shareholding come about? I would have thought that given the amount of money sunk in the club by directors down the year (based on the debt figures in the accounts) that they would have all had some manner of shareholding. Seems kinda mad.

was all that was in the company last week, a bit of financial re engineering and loans have been converted to shares, The supporters raised nearly 30k alone in december to keep the show on the road and in a gesture of goodwill to the board while mediation took place. Supporters were not welcomed or asked to participate in the allocation of shares. Gust have contributed over 80k to the club in various activities since summer. Hopefully we can all get on with the important task of pre season but people are genuinely scared of GUFC Ltd and its culture

"Galway United, after strenuously reviewing its budget proposals for 2011 and paying due cognizance to the difficult trading circumstances that currently exist, the paid Administration role at the club is to be discontinued. Nick Leeson was an integral part of these discussions and has decided to step down from the role of CEO forthwith. Nick will remain as a shareholder of the football club and will continue to represent the club in his facilitation role with the FAI. Galway United chairman John McCormick, who paid tribute to the work carried out by Nick Leeson over the past number of years, said that a new voluntary committee will be formed to oversee the day to day running of Galway United FC. All stakeholders in the football club and football in Galway will be consulted and hopefully represented within this organization."

Nick is the one in control of the club.

The board have nothing to do with the day to day. They may have so called "board meetings" but the real decision is made in Nick's twisted mind, regardless of anything anyone says.

While I understand the normal (is it better to say - standard) fan ire at "those who would rule", I find it a little over the top and possibly with ulterior motives this whole campaign. Galway, as a city, is dead for sport. There is so little assistance from the city or county councils that it's embrarassing, yet crusties with no talent other than the inability to wash, receive the loving assistance of the authorities. This still doesn't take away from a club, GUFC, that has always punched above it's weight and despite the best efforts of Nick Leeson and some others, will enjoy the odd day in the sun and survival is key for local football. Galway looked like they would become the next Drogheda, and it still could be, though not in a good sense. There is so little interest, internationally or locally, in properly investing in Irish football that it was always going to be a hard/impossible ask for the CEO and staff. Galway have contributed greatly to football in the country, no, make that sports. It was the foresight of the club that saw them bridge the gap with the GAA to begin the long slow march (still ongoing) towards the realisation that all sports bodies in Ireland need to combine their resources.

Maybe it was the spud in my mouth :-)

Basically those wannabe hippy types who seem to land arts grants for their refusal to acknowledge the presence of soap or shampoo in the world (don't they realise you can get massive bottles of the stuff - WITH CONDITIONER - for next to nothing in Lidl!). Last time I was in Galway was with the Connacht Branch and we were discussing the state of play for rugby. What they have to go through just to run events is madness, and for football it's the same. While for GAA, the last time I was at a game was Ireland-Australia and while the play on the pitch was surprisingly fair and fast, the atmosphere was more suited to a funeral.

Should the trust not put in some conditions to the money to ensure that the group had some (genuine) input into the club? Personally, I'd wonder the benefit of pumping this type of money in without a degree of control. It'd be better saved and be ready to resurrect a club at a later date a la Cork or Rovers.

It's all a bit of a riddy at Galway the Trust are breaking their balls to rise money then give it to the club where they have f*** all control and �1300 a week goes to Leeson.
