    New LOI Book

Just noticed this on our forum, but I am sure it has wider interest

"The launch is in the Burlington Hotel next Monday (Nov 22) from 7.30pm onwards. The book is called 'Gods versus Mortals' and comprises 10 separate chapters, each of which deals with a great European game from the last 50 years involving an Irish club."
Tifo poles, sausage rolls and a few goals.

I dunno, the discussion on our forum was round the fact that Derry v Benfica is in there in Chapter 8.

Will have to keep an eye out for this book. Should be an interesting read regardless of Limerick in it or not. Surely that match should be though.

    Athlone v Inter Milan??
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

Lads, I've asked the author for a full list of games I'll post them when I get a reply.

    The 10 games are;
Shamrock Rovers v Man United, 1957
Waterford United v Man United, 1968
Athlone Town v AC Milan, 1975
Limerick United v Real Madrid, 1980
    Dundalk v Spurs, 1981
    Bohemians v Rangers, 1984
    Galway United v Groningen, 1986
    Derry City v Benfica, 1989
    Shelbourne v Rangers, 1998
    Shelbourne v Deportivo, 2004

There are nearly 60 different interviewees in it, including; Liam Tuohy, Ronnie Nolan, Paddy Crerand (Man United) Alfie Hale, John Minnock, Eoin Hand, Des Kennedy, Mick Fairclough, Dermot Keely, Damien Richardson, 'Rocky' O'Brien, Ian Redord (Rangers), Paul Mason (Groningen), Liam Coyle, Paul Doolin, Jonas Thern (Benfica), Paul McGee, Pat Fenlon, Jason Byrne, Stuart Byrne, Mark Rutherford and Pat Scully.

I think the price is €16.99 and you are all more than welcome to come to the book launch on Monday.

Let the "Where's this game" moaning begin!

Must keep an eye out for it though.

Sounds like a good list of games. A bit 80s heavy, but what can you leave out. Thought that Bohs Uefa Cup run - where they beat both Aberdeen and Roddy Collins "tactics" - might have made it, but probably just as well not have that interview.

Obviously it isn't complete without a full chapter on when we beat Bordeaux in the Cup Winners Cup in the 80s because Paul Cashin nutmegged Tigana, but the cheating french ****** appealed to UEFA and got the result rejected and they used goals scored to decide the outcome, all on a technicality.
That question was less stupid, though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.

Help me, Arthur Murphy, you're my only hope!

Would've sacrificed one of the Shels' games at the end to get another team in. Cork vs Bayern Munich or Drogheda vs Kiev maybe.

Would have certainly bought it if our Bayern tie was in it.

Definitely more worthy thatn Shels v rangers or Galway's game. Rovers had a classic game with bayer in early 60s too. Only Pats possibility was v Celtic in 1998 (same year as Rangers v Shels)

Surely the Depor Vs Shels game and the Galway Vs Groningen games could have been substituted with some more worthy ones.
