Very good. I think it's one of two UEFA Cup grounds I can claim to have played on. Think the TG4 documentary was UEFA sa Ghaeltacht. It was a bit of a Rule 42 infringement.

It was a great day though - lads dribbling in and out between stone walls, United kitted out in big woolly fishermen's ganseys and the Dutch lads getting all confused at the talk of Galway hookers.

As much as the GAA would love it, Rule 42 doesn't apply to pitches that they don't own.

Spurs were not the bigger club in 1979, Celtic had won the european cup 12 years previous, a feat spurs never managed, but I do agree that game should have been included, along with a lot of others for loads of other clubs, Vol 2 def worth looking into.

Tommy McConnville reckons everyone in Dundalk was behind the goal to see him just missing that cross that night ! A good connection and it could have been Dundalk V Real Madrid. Anyone remember Gazza going close v Germany in euro 96, in extra time, similar to that.

Speaking to the author, Paul Keane, at the Shels exhibition in Pearse Street Library during the week, he informed me that he was already starting on volumn two!

It's on Eason's stock list but it seems that it has not been distributed by them to the stores yet (up to Friday anyway).

I purchased mine at the launch in the Burlington on Monday night last.

I have only read the Shelbourne content so far. Well written with some great quotes from the players who were involved in the games (and from some of the opponents)

Tried Easons and there was no sign of it. I then tried O Mahoney's (Limerick) and they hadn't got it either but the girl was suprised it hadn't been ordered in. Waiting for a call to say when its in.

Lads, I've just been informed that there was a delay in getting the books to the shops due to the weather but the book is on the shelves as of yesterday in all Eason's stores and major bookshops. Let me know if you are having issues getting the book.

Managed to get a copy of the book over the weekend (trudging through snow and ice etc etc ). Read 2/3 of the chapters (each reflecting one of the games) and was very impressed. Not yet far enough in to give a proper review but very much enjoyed what I read to date, good backround to the game(s) and an excellent narrative laced with interviews from participants. Each chapter ends with stats (teams, crowd, dates etc) for the matches covered

Well done to Paul Keane and all involved, definitely recommended for any LOI fan. Looking forward to follow up (Aberdeen and Kauserslughten please ?????)

Looking forward to getting my hands on it. I would imagine, as others alluded to earlier, that the reason the United-Groningen game is in there has nothing to do with a 'heavyweight' club but the fact it was a game played on a GAA pitch which the GAA tried to stop, but, as Gufcfan said, failed to manage as technically they didn't own it, it was a community pitch and the local community out there came to United's rescue by providing the pitch. Agree there are some surprising omissions (IMO) from the list of games, but I suppose there had to be a cut-off point somewhere, and the United game had a unique novelty factor so would imagine that's why it is included
