Was just playing Football Manager and spotted a club called Leeds AFC, based in Cork. I don't believe there are any words.
Unless there actually is a place in Cork called Leeds.

Old thread on Leeds: http://foot.ie/threads/15554-Leeds-FC
There is also an Everton AFC in Cork. We have played them in the cup, and obviously we also played Home Farm Everton when they were around. Plus we played Everton in the UEFA cup. I wonder if we're the only club to have played competitively against all three.
It works the other way as well of course. There is a Finn Harps in Liverpool and another in County Down.

Harps actually played Leeds too, I believe in the late 90's. Can't remember exactly when, but I do remember going up to a FAI cup game against Leeds FC as a young fella and telling everyone in school about Harps playing Leeds in the cup, not realising at the time that it wasn't the real Leeds.

Having a look through the thread on Boards about the Suarez ban and I find myself wondering if we're really missing anything by not having these guys following Irish football. Absolute head bangers on there. If we just had a way to tax them to get a few quid extra into our clubs we'd have a happy medium.

You're right. Bad marketing and the fact that all our TV is British based and we watched a lot of British channels in a time when football was getting good.
I was over at the Liverpool - Spurs game a few weeks back. I met Norwegian lads and they were bemused when I told them how low the attendances are in Irish football. Norway is about the same population as Ireland and there biggest club Rosenborg averages about 15k fans per game. Compare that to lets say Rovers with about 3k-6k.
Rosenborg have been in the Champions League a few times and there football is generally a good standard. One good thing though is that our National team is better and they even said so. This probably has to do with a lot of our players going to England when they come of age and even playing in the Championship, League One, League two etc.
So the talented players are there. The money isn't and that is why if you are any good you go England when you are younger and you build your career there. In Norway they can afford to hold onto the big players with money for a while then sell them to England when they come good and thats what drives the fans in.
Its a catch 22. We need players to attract fans but we need money to get the players and we need fans to get the money.
I would dispute that having our players go to England is reason we have a better national team than Norway.
I thought I just did.
No. You just indicated that you would but you never actually confirmed that you did. Can we take it, at this point, that you have now disputed this matter and we can proceed to deal with the matter, as per operations manual.
Sir, I left my operations manual in my locker.
Norway 30th, Ireland 39th.
But yeah, that jumped out at me from the post as well. I dunno if we're necessarily much worse than them, but I wouldn't say we're noticeably better than Norway.
Well you could say they haven't qualified for a tournament since 2000, in which time we've qualified twice.
You could. And you could point out that they're first seeds for the World Cup qualifying while we're third seeds. You could use stats to prove either side of it. I don't think there's that much of a difference between us tbh.
Probably not, but I think overall our team's been more successful and would appear better.
Anyone see the Premier Soccer Sunday ad with the audience? 'kin hell..
