Carrick knew what he was doing there. "If I can draw attention to the ref that I got a hand in the face he might send him off".

I'm not quite sure what Sammon was doing with his hands so wide. It looked like he was feeling for Carrick, holding him off / protecting his space and looking to balance himself all in the one go. Clumsy but not even 1% violent or dangerous. Daft decision, almost a cliche decision though, and cliches become self-fulfilling. I hate hearing pundits say "you can't raise your hands these days". That's just banal nonsense that gives refs license to send players off for, eh, raising their hands. Of course you can raise your hands.

Looks the height of it alright.

I don't think Carrick even reacted that much. It's possible Sammon poked him in the eye, which would cause Carrick to react as he did, but it's not as if Carrick immediately fell to gruond and started rolling around in mock agony. You'd imagine an appeal would be successful, but doesn't Sammon miss the next game regardless? Would be a shame if he loses his place in the starting line-up because of this.

I think in the event of an appeal, then he doesn't miss the next game.

It depends on when the appeals committee next meets. Lee McCulloch gets to play for Rangers tonight because the SPL appeals committee decided to take Christmas and New Years off. I'd imagine the EPL are a bit more professional.

Wigan looking to get Sammon off the hook: http://www.wigantoday.net/sport/wigan-athletic/sammon_off_the_hook_1_4095489

Have we used 'off the hook' yet or has Wigan Today made mugs of us?

I think we have been done, still it cheered me up, how could we have missed a sitter like that?

Looks like Wigan Today landed the big one.

Good news, Sammon escapes the hook, he has had his appeal upheld according to the BBC R5 sports news.

They reported the item without resort to cheap attempts at sickly humour

We're going to have to wait with baited breath for the outcome of the appeal.

Dropped for today after all that. I wonder is it because Wigan's training mid-week was based on Sammon being missing and so getting Rodallega and Moses working together?

I guess the situation could arise in a game during a substitution where it was "Ledger in for Sammon."

He was due to be dropped anyways, his performances haven't impressed Wigan supporters. Rodallega is still the main man in their eyes.

Who cares about what Wigan supporters think? They've got more points in the 5 or 6 games he's played than the rest of the games combined.

    Linky?

Here's a whole thread on a Wigan forum recently saying otherwise. And here's another.

Sammon's goal or Rodallega's? I'd be inclined to give it to Sammon. He appears to stick a leg out intentionally as Rodallega's shot comes through. Even so, it's the deflection that takes it past the goalkeeper. I see the BBC have awarded it to Rodallega though.

I don't think intent matters, if you get the last touch its your goal. I don't know who the official scorers are but theres always the dubious goals committee if all else fails.

They've made mugs of us, in fact we've been stitched up like a kipper.

I don't know about that, but I think he is doing very well, but it's a big leap from Kilmarnock to Wigan.

Sammon linked with a season long loan move to Derby this morning.
All goals, yellow and red cards tweeted in real time on mastodon, BlueSky and facebook
