FAI hit back at paper coverage

FAI hit back at paper coverage

    May 12, 2004

The Director of Corporate Affairs of the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) has hit back at a recent newspaper article which claimed that the Association had handled badly the return of Roy Keane to the Irish squad prior to the April meeting with Poland and the Manchester United man’s subsequent exit from the travelling party.

In a letter to Wednesday’s Irish Independent newspaper, FAI official Pat Costello outlines a series of criticisms to the article, which appeared under the headline “FAI get themselves in another Keane mess” in the April 28th edition of the newspaper, the day on which Ireland and Poland met in Bygdoszcz.

The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

The FAI do not help themselves.

7/4: FAI not meeting Keane, despite most media sources claiming they had met.

    13/4: What a difference a week makes!

Can anyone find news about the Unity Cup in the ticket section of the FAI site? Soccercentral, BBC, Ticketmaster UK all had information before hand!

When it comes to news of Irish soccer I'll go with the tabloids.
