Benfica's junior team captain is in a coma in a Lisbon hospital after collapsing and suffering heart failure following a training session.
Bruno Baiao, an 18-year-old midfielder, collapsed unconscious in a cafe and was taken to the Curry Cabral hospital.
The incident occurred just a few months after Benfica's Hungarian striker Miklos Feher collapsed and died during a SuperLiga match on January 25 against Vitoria Guimaraes.
Hospital director Pedro Canas Mendes confirmed that Baiao's heart had stopped twice, at the cafe and again at the hospital.
"The player's situation is extremely delicate but he's young and we all hope he will recover," Canas Mendes said.
Benfica's official website has said that Baiao, a talented playmaker, had a history of heart problems but had been passed fit to play after recent tests.
