while it's going to mean a quite weekend next weekend in the league, it's only fair that the fixtures were put back.
The eircom League have postponed Six matches in the Premier and first Divisions following requests from three clubs, which will enable the respective clubs to release their players for the Four Nations Tournament in Aberdeen in May of this year.
The eircom League received requests from Waterford United, St Patrick's Athletic and Shelbourne for postponements of their respective Series 12 Premier Division fixtures and from UCD, Bray Wanderers and Kildare County for postponements of their respective Series 10 First Division fixtures.
These requests are as a result of those clubs having players selected to represent the eircom League in the Four Nations Tournament in Aberdeen, Scotland which takes place from May 18 to 23.
The eircom League has postponed the following six fixtures:
Premier Division Series No 12:
May 20 - Dublin City v Waterford United, Tolka Park
May 21 - Bohemians v St. Patrick's Athletic, Dalymount Park
Drogheda United v Shelbourne, United Park
First Division Series No 10:
May 20 - Dundalk v UCD, Oriel Park
May 21 - Bray Wanderers v Limerick, Carlisle Grounds
May 22 - Kildare County v Finn Harps, Newbridge
while it's going to mean a quite weekend next weekend in the league, it's only fair that the fixtures were put back.
Do we really have to have the Bohs - Pat's game off?Originally Posted by tiktok

I think the rule for FULL internationals is that you must have TWO players (from one club) away, so I think it is daft to postpone this game.
Deboez Online - http://www.deboez.ipfox.com
All I can say to that Luke is that either Bohs or Pats must have requested the postponement.
Aren't most of the coaching staff involved with EL clubs too, any Bohs/Pats on there?
It's a load of muck, why didn't they select a full squad. No Paisley or Dillon. Micky mouse international (sic) Tournament.
well for a start paisley isn't fully fit.....
it will lead to a good night on el weekly, all the lads will have to talk about is dolan![]()
Ignore Max Power, he is no more, the future is Ron Burgundy. I'd love to be Ron Burgundy but they won't let me........
They changed the rule in the off season. Its one player missing for any international. This is an international. Pats asked for the postponement. 'twas grantedOriginally Posted by Luke O'Riordan

Stephen Ward(Bohs)
Doyle (CCFC)
Kearney (CCFC)
Dillon (LTFC)
Paisley (LTFC) although not fully fit + Leaving Cert.
These should be in our strongest squad and give this tournament some respect otherwise don't be posponing games. The above are U-21 internationals.
You answered your own question. Mickey Mouse Tournament that does the league absolutely no good. Win it and "sure it was only conference players and the league of Wales", don't win it "ha ha ha couldn't even beat non-league players". Do you think the anti-eL numpties will care it's not the best U21 squad, let alone eL squad, available?Originally Posted by Xlex

What a utter & complete joke!
Clubs are not supposed to recommend 1st team players for the Mickey Mouse Comp in the first place so shouldn't need to postpone games.
That is not a true "international" tournament so rules should not apply.

Apparently there was a rule brought in specifically for representative matches. It's not under the "International Call Ups" one - it's a seperate one*Originally Posted by pete

NOPE MACY
it really is a rule for "League represenative" sides
from the fai:
Under Rule 20.16 as amended at the 2004 eircom League AGM, clubs may
request a postponement of a fixture if one (1) or more players is
selected for a League representative match.
repesents the eircom League and shows what kind of talent we have in our domestic league, yeah the timing sucks but if ALL clubs had of been behind it and helpful the we could have had the strongest squad possible out there. All matches would have been put back then, instead of a few clubs having to ask the FAI.
I could almost gaurentee that Devo tried to get Stephen Ward(Bohs), Doyle (CCFC), Kearney (CCFC) and Dillon (LTFC) but was knocked back by the clubs managers. If the FAI want a strong repesenaation this should be mandatory for all clubs, it's not as if 1 weekend off is going to cause major hassle, im sure most managers would love to give most of there squad a nice little break before the real stuff starts over the next few months
Does it represent the eircom league or is it the Irish Junior team ? there are many players not playing for eL teams who could get on it otherwise.
of course, everything looks bad if you remember it.- Homer Simpson

a creditable entry would have to have a creditable manager, which Devo isn't!
Think the SEI need a new banner - "If you can read this, you don't support Bohs"Originally Posted by wws

This is not a credible tournament, and one the eL should not go near.Originally Posted by Xlex

Would they ****? THere isn't one player in Ireland under 21 not playing in the League better than that squad selected.Originally Posted by blutil

the people pushing this are the eircom league themselves - its a complete nonsense from a strictly football point of view but from a blazer point of view this is what they want - involvement with other blazers in the uk
the tails wagging the dog on this one
We couldn't get a game postponed this time last year when John O'Flynn, one of our top players, was playing in a real international match yet one year on 6 clubs manage to get a postponement because a few of their fringe players are playing in some meaningless Mickey Mouse amateur tournament. It doesn't make sense!
