Saw it with a friend, to quote "if I want to watch soft core pr0n I'll get it off the net like everyone else!"

Dodge - Agree on 12 Things I Hate About You. Best Shakespeare update to modern teen drama thing out there. Introduced me to Julia Stiles!

Dricky/12th Man - Good call on Nightmare before Christmas, felt there was too much music in it though.

Conor74 - Fight Club rocks. End of story. About as far from a chick flick as you can get.

Everyone who mentioned The Great Escape - Poor old O'Callaghan, eh?

Jebus, thats the name alright. Its actually really hard to explain how bad that film was. From the bad guy French man right through to the gadgets it was the film version of St. Colemans Park.
    Oh no not them again

Most people here seem to rate The Godfather 2 above The Godfather.

I think the Godfather shades it.

The Italian girl that Al Pacino marries in Sciliy in that film is the best looking woman i think ive ever seen. Stunning.

rent it out and listen to it trough the 5.1 with the rear speaker up full the music is great and spooky.

Three Kings I must put in as one of the best, it is a real 'this is realy what could happen" class and relevent to today Bill hicks style "yes we are the best army except for the fools in uniform"

I would like to hear peoples reactions to some of the classics, Ben Hur Breakfast at Tiffanies Arsenic and Old lace Angels with dirty faces etc

Watched Ben Hur again recently (a real Sunday day film) and it is a great film just wonder what people make of the old ones.

One reason I hate the Titanic is I was a fan of the old balck and white one (the one Cameron is supposed to be paying homage to instead he rips it off)

I can see why most think GFII is better but I am of the beleif that if you have read the book then one becomes the better film, why? well because you know who everyone is and it goes into a bit more depth, I used to think GFII was the better of the two but after reading the book and watching it again (and again..as does everyone) I have to say GD was better most people I ask that had read the book felt the same.

Anyone read it and felt the same?

I'd be a big fan of older stuff too

Huge Audrey hepburn fan, although I can't bring myself to watch Breakfast at Tiffany's anymore, partly because George Peppard is the love interest, but mainly because Mickey Rooney's 'chinese neighbour' makes me cringe. Roman holiday and My Fair lady are class though.

To be honest i think films golden age was in the 40's and 50's. Many of them are still shown on TV but usually at ridicolous hours. For instance ITV at 3.00 am. TG4 shows some good films. Tg4 ild say gets its films cheaply cause they are usually the most utter tripe of a film youve ever seen or the forgotten classics.

One thing bugs me though and that is remakes. If its been done well - leave it alone. Surely directors and writers can come up with their own original ideas. A recent example was The league of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Why bother remaking it when the orginal was such a classic.

Yeah, but when your talking about movies and film you have to brush the book aside as if it doesn't exist. There's loads of films out there that aren't as good as the book, but they're still good films. Very rarely does a film upstage the book. Donnie Brasco for instance, was a superb book, but a disappointing film. But it was still a good film on its own merits. Taking the Godfather series, from a movie\film perspective and forgetting about the book, Part II in my opinion is the better film.

I don't agree with that to be honest. They've undoubtedly become more popular with the Oscar success of 'Fargo' and box office success of 'O, Brother' etc. (neither of which could be described as standard Hollywood fare). This has opened up producers purses, and has started to attract bigger names.

Intolerable Cruelty was definitely their highest profile film, but as it was a throwback to 50's styled romantic comedy their choice of actor was great, and Mrs. Douglas would have agreed to the role long before her oscar for Chicago.

More a case of quality attracting wider interest than selling out, the second to last film, the Man who wasn't there was far from selling out.

When I heard it was TomWanks, I cringed haven't read the reviews but to be fair to them most of thier films are not well received in th US of A. I will give them the benifit of the doubt. One for the dvd me thinks.

for those interested tonight on tv (sunday 23 may, bbc2 ) there is a minor classic film on tv. Odd sort of cult, horror, science fiction film on called seconds. Its unusual....

not seen very much so it probably wont be on tv again for quite a while after tonight.
