Thought Cunningham did really well tonight and certainly is a viable option for LB.
A few individual good performances (JOSH, Long, Fahey in flashes) but tactically were too predictable and Trapattoni needs to show some flexibility. Tactics rather than individuals is the reason we lost.
O'Dea unfortunately isn't an option for future internationals.

Long was excellent as well, JOSH made a great case for moving CB freeing up RB and - shoot me - I thought Whelan played well. But yeah other than that there's not much coming from tonight. Considering the opposition and some decent play in patches, this friendly defeat is more irritating than most. I guess at least we played quite well in periods but out we drop intensity so easily. Frustrating.

We already know Josh can play at CH, he doesn't have to make a case for that. It's up to a RB to come on and make a case so Josh can be in the centre.
I thought Josh was sloppy at times. Definite sloppy pass which led to their 2nd goal. He is not made out to be the main man at CH, but best choice with Dunne

Would you say that Coleman is ahead of Foley for the right back spot? Or ahead of McGeady or Hunt for the spot on the wing? I would have liked Coleman to come on, but the circumstances dictated that Trapattoni play it safe as it were, by sticking with his more experienced heads. He probably felt that having Cunningham, and Coleman in a defence with O'Shea and Kelly in the middle would have been too inexperienced. Saying that, if Trap had put Wilson in CB he could have replaced Kelly with Coleman later on in the game. Or alternatively, he could have stuck Coleman on for Duff and put McGeady out on the left, but Trap has said that he doesn't see Coleman as a winger. Strange enough.
I think you're underestimating how much Trap rates Sledge.

Only got seeing parts of the game out of one eye (moving house next week), but I am glad to see Foley get a chance. He always shows up and letting Coleman move past him in the pecking order at this stage would have been a slap in the face. Coleman will certainly get a chance, and being around the squad will benefit him tremendously. Hopefully this means the end of McShane.
Wilson not getting on beggers belief. What on earth is there left to learn about Glenn Whelan (not knocking him for a second, he's a super player, but what if something happens to him).

Irrationally I dislike Foley due to his "I deserve to be in that team" comments from last year. However one can't argue that he has seen plenty of game time for Wolves this season and he deserved a go. I did feel that he always tucked in though and left the Norwegian too much space.Like everyone else, the performance of Cunningham was the standout for me. Worrying the number of times we were caught with a flat ball down the middle though. Can't see O'Dea being part of the centre of defence anytime soon.
I thought Fahey and Whelan were much too static in the first half, though Fahey did improve and look to dictate it a bit more in the second. I thought Hunty was a shadow of his former self when he came on, he didn't appear to have that electric pace over a couple of yards that we would have seen from him in the past. Lawerence was Lawerence, Duffer was lively in the first and then tired. I thought McGeady was a threat at times, and then as frustrating as normal at times.
Long did well but faded badly in the second as the game wore on. Dunno what to make of Walters, a decent bustling striker with the odd nice touch. But will he ever be anything more than a Doyle understudy. Time will tell.
It would have been nice not to lose it, but I'll not be throwing any toys out of the pram over this one.
complete waste of time.. very frustrating. . traps just goin through the motions. id say he has his retirement date set in his head and couldnt give a fiddlers about bringin players in for the future.
what did we learn? long can play as well as he did last month. mcgaeady can still do stepovers. hunt still needs a haircut.
in fairness was glad to see fahey offer something different in the centre, but that wouldnt of happened had green been fit
cunningham did well , but how he merits a place and coleman doesn't is beyond me. and if trap doesn't see coleman as a winger he obviously just doesn't watch the club matches. weather it's his best position i don't know, but he's prooved he can do a good job there

Trap doesn't see Coleman as a winger - Has he ever been to watch him play? No. Coleman has been the only stand out Irish player in the premiership this season, making headline after headline, oddly enough playing as a winger.
Trap definitely doesn't see Ciaran Clark as a defensive midfielder, he is a centre back period he tells us - Has he ever even seen him in the flesh? No. Funny that Houillier an accomplished manager who works with him day in and day out feels he can play as an accomplished defensive midfielder.
Is Trap an absolute out and out bluffer? Yes.
Headline after headline? Surely that's hyperbole? He's played 11 games out of 13 in the Premiership, 4 of which were from the bench and he has played well. At the same time he has had the odd moment where it's obvious that he's still very much a raw talent and Moyes has indicated that Coleman is not the long-term answer to their right wing problem - he's filling in for the injured Leon Osman. But all of a sudden he's the new Gareth Bale (another player whose brief magnificence has been overblown in my opinion). I hope Coleman keeps up his good work and I'd love for him to become a top player for Ireland, but I can see why Trap didn't put him on. I don't know whether or not Trap has seen him in the flesh, but I'd guess that his scouts and coaches have and if not, I hope that he has at least seen footage. Either way, he's seen him twice now in training, so he's in a better place to make the judgement than you are or I am.

I almost think that Trapattoni's English makes him seem less clued in, but I have no doubt that he is.
Playing Clark at DM was a gamble which worked. If he's a long term DM or not remains to be seen - his CB potential, the position he's played in all his life, is far clearer. Bit of a theatrical comment considering Trap merely saw him as CB long term. If Clark proves a DM option I'm sure everyone, manager included, would be very happy.
