FAI statement - 07 May 2004
The Football Association of Ireland Chief Executive, Fran Rooney, today reaffirmed the Association's position in relation to assaults on referee's.
Mr. Rooney said:
"The Association is concerned about the incidence of assaults on referees and has reaffirmed its condemnation of such behaviour. The role played by referees is a vital one and we must continue to take whatever steps are necessary to eliminate assaults on match officials."

The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.
