    Ireland 2014

Okay just a bit of fun but here goes...

Kieran Westwood (GK): Spurs progressing well and becoming one of the best goalies in the premiership
John O'Shea (LB): Inter Milan Became surplus to requirements in the starting 11 when Mourinho took over from Ferguson at Old trafford. Highly regarded on the continent and opted to join Inter, despite having other options on the continent
Shane Duffy (CB) Everton Growing as a player and a big favourite with the fans at Goodison
Ciaran Clarke (CB) Aston Villa Recently taken over as Villa Captain from Richard Dunne who is no longer a regular in the Villa starting 11
Seaumus Coleman (RB): Everton With Jack Rodwell the darling of the Goodison faithful.
Greg Cunningham (LM): Aston Villa Had to leave Man City for regular first team football and joined West Brom. Made an instant impact and moved to Villa two years later. While he plays in defense for Villa, he plays on the wing for Ireland
David Meyler (CM): Fulham A player that moved with Steve Bruce to Fulham. Highly regarded in the premiership and in international football but not quite seen as good enough for the Top Six
Jamie McCarthy (CM) Liverpool Has taken over the baton from Steven Gerrard as Liverpool captain and one of the top young players in europe
Aiden McGeady (RM) Valencia Did well for 3 seasons with Spartak Moscow but despite a desire to move to the premiership, none of the big 6 took a chance on him and he moved to Valencia in 2013 where he is holding down a place at the Mestalla. However, he continues to be inconsistent for Ireland
Kevin Doyle (CF) Juventus - None of the top 6 in the premiership took a chance on Doyle and he was highly recommended to Juve by former Ireland manager Trappatoni two years ago. Well thought of in Italy
Robbie Brady (Link Striker) Birmingham -Plays on the wing for the Brummies where he moved to from United but owing to the lack of options up front and his attacking abilities he tends to play off Kevin Doyle for Ireland

    Subs/squad
Aaron McCarey (GK) - Wolves: Number 1 at the Mollineaux. highly thought off and is unlucky that he has Westwood preventing him from being Ireland number 1
Sean McDermott (GK) - Reading Young enough to break through at Arsenal but has gone on loan to Reading to get first team football
Marc Wilson Plays every game for Stoke in the Championship where he is linked with premiership clubs such as bolton
Sean St Ledger Plays week in week out for Celtic but hasn't reached his potential
Sean McGinty- Man United Well liked by Mourinho and has been on the bench for United in both the premiership and Champions League
Stephen Kelly - Fulham started 20 games in the premiership last year for Fulham
Mark O'Brien Derby Captain at pride park. Derby's player of the year twice and linked with Spurs and Liverpool last year
Richard Dunne - Aston Villa A much loved player that has seen better days
Micheal Keane - Blackburn Highly thought of but failed to make the grade with United and moved to Blackburn where he is breaking into their first team
Conor Clifford Failed to make the grade at Chelsea but moved to West Ham where he is holding down a place with the Hammers and drawing favourable comparisons with Frank Lampard. Highly rated
Conor Henderson - Wigan Failed to make the break through at the Emirates but moved to Wigan after impressing on loan at Norwich last year. Breaking into the Championship team
Glen Whelan Bolton: Moved to Bolton from Stoke and comes off the bench most weekends in the premiership
Jack Grealish - Villa A real prospect
Aaron Doran - Blackburn Hasn't fullt reached his potential but has drawn comparisons with Duffer
Andy Reid West Ham Brilliantly talented but inconsistent
Keith Treacy Sunderland A player that comes off the bench most weekends for the Mackems
Robbie Keane Wolves comes off the bench for Wolves most weeks in the premiership
Michael Drennan Aston Villa A young striker with the world at his feet
Shane Long Reading A decent Championship striker with a brilliant record for Ireland

Completely forgot about Keith Fahey who will be around our starting line up and most definitely in the squad and Gibson.
Garvan is another I forgot about!

If the make up of the Irish first team in 2014 does indeed resemble the OP's, I would be more than happy. It involves a great deal of wishful thinking regarding John O'Shea and Kevin Doyle, but apart from that, it's a good effort.

As an aside, I would also say that Robert Brady has a very good chance of making it at Manchester United.

Greg Cunningham on the wing? He doesn't have the pace to be a full back, never mind a winger!

Roberts from Arsenal is described on forums as being fast, tall and two footed, however, it's limited info and bias may be at work.
Other players to join this elite group will be Cadogan at Crystal Palace and possibly Coll at Man Utd. What about Stokes, Tidim and Sheridan too!

They bought him from norwich and he is a regular in their youth side.Another diaspora so hopefully stays put in green.Rated more highly than afobe who is banging in the goals for the england under 19s by some of the arsenal youth followers.Has a good scoring record for us since making his debut under 16 last year. That arsenal youth team has four lads who are eligible for our under 17s Webb, smith, glasgow and roberts. All have played for us at under 16 not sure if they all still on board. While on the topic that shea keeper for arsenal reserves is not irish and has not been capped as far as I know even though his name keeps popping up as a future irish keeper on other sites. Interestingly jonjo shelvey formerly of charlton and now liverpool and who said Brady offered him a senior irish cap is playing for england 19s maybe one that got away!!

Has cadogan played for us yet? There must be a problem with Tidim. He is part of this under 19 age group but was not called up for the recent qualifiers even though we have a chronic shortage of strikers in that squad.Anyone know has he defected to the turks?

Might be getting him confused with Sean McDermott, the U19 keeper on Arsenal's books.

No, but apparently he does qualify. Nothing official from either the player, his club, or the FAI mind.
All goals, yellow and red cards tweeted in real time on mastodon, BlueSky and facebook

Martin O'Neill takes over and after a loss to the Faroes Islands, the North agree to a united Irish team. Johnny Evans is then the only former NI player to make the bench for this Irish team!

On current form he'd struggle to make the Faroes team. He isn't even the best player in his family this term.
