    Broadband limit

    Hey guys,

I got broadband a few weeks ago and have been downloading music right left and center. Actually my brother and sister have too. My download limit is 4GB. Is there any way of checking how close we are to that? And what happens if you reach it? Does the internet not work for the rest of the month or are you charged extra?

I've heard that if it's with eircom that once you pass your limit they start charging you through the nose, so be careful.

I hope you are downloading music legally and not stealing from music artists.

I'm with Eircom. And I'm using Yahoo's music video thing so it's all legal.

Ignore Max Power, he is no more, the future is Ron Burgundy. I'd love to be Ron Burgundy but they won't let me........

Or is that more of a case of "i hope the artists and more to the point, the record company's are trading with honourable intension and not trying to shaft joe public" ..... but heaven forbid that we should even acuse them of such a thing.

Pretty much, yeah. An album encoded at 320kbps works out to about 100-125 megs, so you're talking about 8 albums a gig = 32 albums. 320kbps is pretty much lossless, but a lot of music is encoded at a lower rate, which means more albums.

Quite a lot to download in a month really, and in fairness you'd want to be a big music fan to want to spend that much money on music a month. Assuming it's legal of course...

Nah, they just say you can download music and videos. I have gigs of legal music and videos here that I downloaded for free.
