Ground-breaking? What is going on here!? Just like Zayed making the Libyan National team. Fair enough, but they're not world champions are they? Eric Lavine played on the Barbados team... Ooooooooo!
Given most LOI programmes are of general issues, I thought I would post this here
Saw this on the Shels wiki page, anyone ever seen it?
"Seventies and Eighties: 1970-1989
There was a bright enough start to the seventies as Athlone Town were beaten in the Shield final second replay, a win that would see the Reds enter the new UEFA Cup the following season. However, it was to be the last trophy the club would win for some time. Cork Hibs beat Shels in the replay of the 1973 FAI Cup Final in Flower Lodge-the only time the final was ever played outside Dublin. Two years later Shels were shocked in the Cup final by amateurs Home Farm. During this time the club's ongoing problems were covered in a ground-breaking RTÉ fly on the wall documentary entitled A Week in the Life"

Sporting F*ck All!
I remember reading about that before and doing a lot of research in the RTE library when I worked there but could find no record of it. There was a radio programme of that name and it could have been a feature on that. Having said that, the archive, both the actual recordings, and paper records, are very hit and miss and very incomplete. I did find mention of a radio doc made about UCD when they joined the league. Sadly the recording didn't appear to be kept, just a written record of who was interviewed.
There was definately a documentary in the early to mid seventies. From what I remember, it mainly centered around the then manager, Gerry Doyle, and was entitled In my book, you should be on top (or words to that effect).
Title of Documentary was " In my book we should be ahead" - I think
Was it not "In our books, a lot of the figures don't add up"?
"Even if the wind stops to blow
Even if the sea ceases to flow
Even if the sun ceases to rise
The name of Sligo Rovers will shine and shine forever like the morning star glittering in the sky."
Sounds like a real gem if anybody can track it down...
