Drogheda Gardai release ‘fan’
May 2, 2004
The Drogheda United supporter who appeared to strike the referee’s assistant and then man handled the referee following the defeat to Longford United at O2 Park, has been released without charge by the Gardai but the case has been sent to the DPP.
The incident occurred at the end of a rather mundane game at O2 Park in which it is hard to recall a controversial refereeing decision.

The incident that sparked it was when Rogers was throwing the ball to Kelly at left full but one of the Longford forwards interceped it and headed it to Baker who was then in an offside position. He then proceeded to score about five seconds later-it was a complete disaster on our part but still the linesman would have spotted it if he was paying attenttion. Just one of those things its just a pity what happened at the end-more bad pr.
A man is never really poor,
if he can still laugh.
Presumably the "fan" will get a life ban from United Park & maybe all irish football grounds?
Unless United issue a photo of the culprit to all EL Clubs , a lifetime ban from all League grounds in this country is not worth the paper it is written on.
