Youths looked happy to take a point in Ballybofey tonight despite having a late chance to take all three. Wexford started Packie, Wolfie, Anto, Hopper, Gareth, Kevin, Greg, Shane, Deano and Danny and Gary up front. First half was quiet enough with Harps doing well down the wings and Wexford looking stronger in the tackle and playing very direct when they got the ball. First chance fell to Harps after about 15 when a cross from the right was touched over the bar.
Shane then had a shot straight at the keeper while a Harps forward then seemed to fall over when clean through coning in from the left. No protests so presumably not fouled. Gary was later able to get round the Harps keeper but couldn't find Danny from an acute angle and first half ended nil-nil.
Second half began with Harps dominant and not much of a surprise when they went ahead when a cross from the left found a Harps attacker at the far post who put it away although it didn't look like a clean strike. Ben Ryan then came on for Kevin with 20 to go and, just afterwards, on one of the few occasions when Gary got the ball at his feet running at the Harps defence his low shot found the net beyond the keeper's dive. Packie then saved bravely at the feet of a Harps forward while nobody from Wexford could get on the end of a cross by Wolfie after good work down the right. In last few minutes, bad control by a Harps defender allowed Danny clean through on goal but he got taken down from behind just outside the box with a straight red for the Harps defender when just ready to shoot. Shane could only drill the resulting free into the wall. Late subs for Wexford were Shane Nolan and Martin Kehoe.
Reasonable performance round the pitch from Wexford although much of the direct ball was gobbled up by the two big Harps centre halves. Harps played some attractive football especially down the wings but couldn't finish off in the box. One-one at full-time.
