    Reid to Spurs

    From eleven-a-side.com.

    April 27, 2004

Nottingham Forest manager Joe Kinnear has revealed that the club have reached an agreement with Spurs over the £5m summer transfer of Andy Reid to the north London club - but he believes Forest would be making a mistake to accept so little for the Irish international star.

Reid was the subject of a failed £2.5m bid from Spurs during the January transfer window, when the team was under the management of Paul Hart.

But Kinnear has revealed that the Forest board reached a verbal agreement with their Spurs counterparts to sell Reid for £5m at the end of the season - a fee that Kinnear believes is insufficient for a player of the 21-year-old’s ability and potential.

The Irishman said: "What I have been informed is that Tottenham spoke to him, spoke to the club and mentioned £5m. Nothing is sealed, nothing is done, but they have had a natter and there was a handshake before I arrived here. If there is an agreement in place then I wouldn’t want to stand in the way of that but I think he’s far too cheap at that.

"Other clubs would be interested. Why put all our eggs in one basket? What I would say to our chairman is look carefully, listen first, before you make any moves, and why not £10m?"

Reid travelled to Poland with the Irish international squad on Monday afternoon, and is expected to win his fourth senior cap in Bygdoszcz on Wednesday evening.

I'm not sure spurs is the best move for him. If he goes there then he's been bought by David Pleat, and he won't be in charge next season. The new manager might have different plans, want to bring in his own players etc.

I would have preferred to see him go to Charlton or Birmingham.

Its not a done deal yet though.

You're right that Pleat won't be there for long, but I think that's good news for Reid (and Robbie Keane). I'd be confident that whoever takes over would be very happy to have both Reid and Keane in the squad. Spurs is a bigger club than either Charlton or Birmingham and if managed properly has a better chance of long term success. I think this would be a good move for Reid.

Depends who takes over to be honest. Spurs have been a club in decline for a long time and I can't see them doing much better next season. Not sure its a great move for him

From what is being banded about on the Forest Forum he is going to Spurs for £7m plus Ricketts.

No way he worth 10m & Kinnear is just moaning cos he'd prefer to have the player instead of whatever portion he about to be given for team building. Probably sellon or appearance clauses in that 5m anyway.

Spurs are weak on the left so Reid could get plenty of games.

Well if you like at Duff at the age Reid is now there is not much difference in ability. I think when forest see teams like chelsea paying 17m for duff , forest see 10m as not a bad deal. 5m is too little anyway

A cash deal plus Rohan Ricketts would be pretty good business as far as Forest are concerned. Big Joe is talking of £10 million because if you're a big enough muppet to say £5 million is a reasonable enough price you'll get £2 million.

I'd hate to see him at Spurs, they can ruin even the best young talents in Europe. He's also exactly the player they don't need in their mid field.

I thought they were lacking creativity.
