He is a legend and a brilliant player for us, but I have a slight concern MON will use him as a lone striker/ target man and im not sure he is fast enough now. It will mean seanie and the likes scott Hogan will be plan B when we are losing. It also it will mean the ball will be played high from the back, making any creative attacking midfielders redundant and not picked

Great to see his commitment to the cause as I had thought he would be likely to retire - so as long as both he and MON respect that his role might be limited to, say, impact sub appearances when a more physical presence might be required up front, it is good to have another option up front during this transitional phase. In fairness, this is the first realistic opportunity to test out Seani and Hogan so let's hope he makes good use of them in the upcoming friendlies and Nations League games.

Was Carrick not happy to be in the squad and not getting games ? In fairness we are probably not grateful enough to all the lads that turn up and even more so for the lads that might not be getting many games .

In a way it shows that players that are not fully committed may as well say so , and not bother to show up and give the place to a player that wants to be there .

It seems he was able to cope reasonably well with time away from his family when it came to playing for Manchester United, but not for England. I'm sure if he was a bigger part of the first team picture with them it would have probably helped his mood. That said, more prominent England internationals have also shared their negative experiences of playing for England.

Think its only fair to say that with his club he's with people he knows and has worked with for years, which is a marked difference from an international camp. He's far from the only player to have been unhappy with the England set-up. Paul Scholes was a prominent example from the same club.

Might be something about Utd that convinced these players that they were above International football .

Didn’t one our Utd boys throw his toys out of the pram and spit the dummy on International duty .

Denis Irwin also retired from international duty a bit earlier than he could have .

There is something about Utd .

No denying Ferguson had little time for international football. I doubt he needed to push Keane much though. And Scholes had some manner of falling out with Goren-Erikson over being played out of position as I recall. Don't think withdrawing from national duty is ever one thing.
