    Paul Heffernan

    From soccercentral.ie:

There is every opportunity that Irish fans will get the chance to see Notts County striker Paul Heffernan playing in the senior national squad soon, as the Dubliner is reportedly interesting Bolton Wanderers, Blackburn Rovers, Reading and Sheffield Wednesday.

Heffernan, a former Irish U21 International – will leave County who have been relegated to the third division) in the summer after refusing a new deal offered by the cash strapped outfit, who have only recently come out of financial administration.

Heffernan has played under Kerr before, and the Irish boss has had his scouts watching the striker for some months now.

Heffernan told County boss Gary Mills he is not signing a new contract with the club, but the 21-goal star will bring in a fee for the cash-strapped Second Division outfit as he is under 24.

"We just have to hope we get a fair deal", Mills told The Nottingham Evening Post.

"I have a figure in mind which I believe he is worth.

It is a blow, although it is not entirely unexpected.

He told me it was not a matter of finance and it wouldn't matter what we offered him.

Clearly he is looking for a future elsewhere."

Does anyone know much about him or what type of striker he is? 21 goals for a relegated team is a good return.

Is he worth a look before the summer?

Heff is a good striker.....good pace and good eye for goal.....needs a spell in a higher division to see if he will be as good as we think he might be.....

County rate him highly as do most of the div 2 managers

He isn't the ideal partner for Robbie as he is a small partner but he is definitely worth a look. 21 goals in 30 matches a superb especially, as you said, for a relegated club. He would do well in the premiership, i'd like to see him at Bolton with Rivaldo, Nolan and Okocha (if he stays) setting up the chances.

Needs a stint in Division one at least. Players like John Stead have proven that player's can transfer their class to a higher level. He's a Dublin lad apparently. Well that's what his place of birth is listed as at least.

Prefer to see him move higher than division 2 myself.

    Wednesday set for Heff swoop

    April 28, 2004

Sheffield Wednesday manager Chris Turner has signaled his intention to make a summer move for former Irish under-21 striker Paul Heffernan, who will quit Notts County at the end of the season.

Heffernan has been in stunning form for the Magpies this season, and his strike against Port Vale on Saturday took his league tally for the season to the 20-goal mark.

However, defeat to Vale ended County’s hopes of avoiding the drop, and Heffernan is intent on leaving Meadow Lane in the summer after turning down the offer of a new improved long-term contract.

Magpies boss Gary Mills said: “It is a blow but this news is not entirely out of the blue. I made it clear I wanted to keep Paul but he has not accepted the contract we offered him.”

And that has alerted Owls supremo Turner, who said: “He’s had a good season in a team that’s had a poor season from day one. Any player that scores goals attracts interest and he’s one of a number of players we’ve been looking at.”

The 22-year-old scored on his solitary under-21 international appearance in the Toulon tournament two years ago.
