THOUSANDS of euro worth of damage was caused to the headquarters of Sporting Fingal Football Club in Swords after ' mindless' vandals broke into the building at the weekend. Windows and glass doors at Newtown House in Balheary were smashed and offices were ransacked during the disturbance, which has left club officials in shock.
A trail of destruction was left throughout the building, as merchandise and clothing was strewing across the grounds and although nothing was taken, the club is now left to face a hefty clean-up bill.
' A lot of damage has been caused,' Sporting's general manager, Joe Corr said.
' A lot of glass has been smashed, although nothing of value has been stolen. ' We have CCTV cameras on site and the guards and the security company are studying it now.'
' It's mindless vandalism,' Mr Corr added.
' They've caused several thousand euros worth of damage. These people clearly have no respect for other people's property.'
The offices had last been occupied on Friday evening, just before Sporting's league clash with Bohemians, and the club's general manager, Joe Corr, was understandably incensed at the damage caused.
' There was a break-in sometime over the weekend and it was discovered this morning,' Mr Corr told the Fingal Independent yesterday ( Monday).
' It look likes a lot of damage has been caused. A lot of glass has been smashed, although nothing of value has been stolen. ' We have CCTV cameras on site and the guards and the security company are studying it now. I expect they'll be following a definite line of enquiry. The security cameras on site have been invaluable to us.' Four windows were smashed at the premises in total, along with a set of french doors, while an array of merchandise was also destroyed by rain after being dumped outside the building.
It's the second time in two years the club has been targeted by intruders, after their merchandise shop at Morton Stadium was broken-into back in July 2008, while the sign at the entrance to their headquarters was also destroyed by graffiti in April of that year.
' It's mindless vandalism,' Mr Corr added. ' As general manager of the club, we will be pursuing prosecutions for this'.
Swords Gardaí examined the scene on Monday morning and are investigating the break-in. Anyone with information is asked to contact Swords Garda Station on 6664700.

#NeverStopNotGivingUp
Thought this was to do with NAMA when I read the thread title...
Happened to us a couple of years ago. Always nasty. Some people are just plain nasty.

Might aswel start it!! SHAMROCK ROVERS scumbags haha OJ OJ Dont kill me.
But on proper relation thats dreadful carry on but lil toerags (wish I could use profanities).
how many buses did the Rovers fans have to take to Swords?
bad form in fairness.
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.
Seems more plausable that a certain 'element' decided not to get off the 41a in santry last friday night and see where it took them
Seriously though, sickening to think these little scrotes will in all probability never be caught and be free to cause grief wherever they choose. A lot of that krap going on in the swords area for a fair while now.
Where is the FAI Cup kept out of curiousity ?
Under a table last I heard. (I kid you not)

Similar thing happended to Sligo a year or so ago. Awful stuff.
"If you don't work harder I'll pull you off at halftime,"
“Crikey, at Manchester City all we get is an orange and a cup of tea,"
Terrible stuff. Especially when you consider all the good things Sporting are doing for young people in that area.
Can the deliberate WUM title of this thread not be changed please - I don't remember anything of the type when scumbags broke into Sligo. I hope they're caught and given a good hiding.
How is "Fingal's offices raided" a deliberate WUM?
The only thing that i can see wrong is that 'wrecked' might be a more appropriate word than 'raided', seeing as how nothing of value was taken.

I'm with Spudulika and Pineapple Stu, I thought it was a financial raid, rather than vandalism
"Billy Corgan, Smashing Pumpkins."
"Homer Simpson, smiling politely."
Osarusan - substitute Limerick, Shamrock Rovers, Dundalk for Fingal and you'd have a heap of fans, and yourself no doubt, asking why the word "raided" was used - sorry, it's a WUM, I wonder when it'll be changed?
