I was not clear - I meant re-introduce him to Dundalk.

He has not officiated in any capacity in a Dundalk game since his madcap performance in the Drogheda V Dundalk FAI Cup Semi-final in October 2013 where he sent off two Dundalk players and awarded a penalty to Drogheda


It is a poor decision, particularly because of the importance of the match, his controversial background and the fact that he is from Cork

The referee will be very important. It all depends on how he handles the game as to whether we have a great game of football or a battle.If he starts flashing yellows straight away for the slightest nudge then we could have a real battle.
Either way it will be hard fought.

We've made a lot of changes this season & are well able to play good football but if Steve (Sideways) O'Donnell starts his antics again we have a private room booked for him at the CUH He should have walked in both games we've had so far this season.
There are folks down here who reckon we're in ye're heads at this stage. We definitely have Kenny rattled

No excitement here as its still only three points no matter what happens. The expectations are in that the two best sides in the country are meeting.

The way Dundalk played in the Presidents Cup wasn't very friendly. You thought all you had to do was turn up & pick up the prize & when Cork turned you over you didn't like it.
Kenny & Co are still moaning about the game at Oriel. The loss was everyone's fault except his own players.

Both teams have had great seasons so far with City going for eight wins on the trot. Dundalk continue to scrape through in some games while they romp home in others. Meanwhile City just keep on winning.
Even our 1-0 wins are comprehensive.

There's no doubt that City are the only team in the country who are capable of beating you on a regular basis & the Dundalk players & management know this. What's more we've proved it twice already this season.

Has to be a big boost to Cork that they've beaten Dundalk twice already this season. Pres Cup is a glorified friendly of course but Dundalk were well beaten. It's not often that's happened since 2012. Should be a good game, maybe leave it more than 4 seconds before trying to take O'Donnell out this time though, eh? ;-)

Cork must go into this game with good confidence after two wins against Dundalk this year. I think comments that Dundalk are rattled are way off the mark though.

We've been winning games but haven't really "clicked" yet. There are a few reasons for this. We are set up differently this year and are trying to integrate new players but this has been frustrated through injuries.

There seems to be a view in Cork that a physical approach to the game would intimidate Dundalk. They need to be careful that this doesn't result in getting a player sent off.

I also wonder how the weather will impact on the game. It is likely to be very warm and players will need to be clever to conserve energy for the full 90 minutes.

I would have the opposite opinion of what the ref should do. Cork's game plan in the opening minutes has always been to put a stamp on the game by kicking everything that moves, so far they have gotten away with it as it is early in the game which I'm sure is the tactic. The same will happen of Friday but the question will be will the ref be strong enough to issue cards so early in the game?

Don't know what game you were watching he was awful. He actually missed McCabe's red card, it was one stupid by McCabe maybe a foul on him but he got up and kicked the defender and had to go, but it was the 4th official who called it. But Scully is the biggest scumbag going in the league think he had more fouls than touches two being the clear kick he did that he only got booked for, even then I think it was for the foul before not the kick, and the head-butt on Brennan right in-front of Buttimer and the 4th official and this sort of sums him up he called Brennan and Scully back but only Brennan went back and he just let Scully walk of and held Brennan there for a minute or two. He also missed the full-back picking up throwing Brennan on the ground. He's by far the worst ref in the league and thats saying something

Yup! Expect a Kevin Keegan like breakdown any time soon. I am intrigued though, why this consensus? Top of the league, 8 game winning streak including a resilience of playing poorly and winning and with the odd very late goal, 4 points clear - all the signs of a team under a rattled manager. Cork are doing a fine job themselves with 7 wins on the spin and keeping the pressure on no doubt but the win in Oriel was hardly comprehensive and a pre-season trophy win is hardly eating away at the confidence in the Dundalk camp. That master of mind games Caulfield may be in people's heads but only as an irritant to the 4th official (perfect match there tonight) on the sideline screaming penalty every few seconds as if he has tourettes! As for Stevie 'sideways' O'Donnell well i hope the contempt continues there as he obviously has got in peoples heads if Cork fans are worrying about his 'antics' already. Stevie 'oneleg' O'Donnell and his control of the cup final should be the real concern for Cork if he is able to feature. We certainly are not unbeatable and bar the Cork penalty that divided the sides in Oriel Wexford Youth have been the only side to cause significant concern regardless of the results that didnt reflect Youths performances.

It was all 3 actually Tripped the guy then kicked him on the ground right in-front of the 4th official and only got a yellow somehow. Then after halftime whistle him and Brennan came together and he moved his head toward Brennan you know a small movement like no quite Zidane but you've seen red for the and easily a yellow at least.

I'd say he is alright but only because the smell off him would put you off marking him too closely.

Obviously we only see them when they play us, or when on the tele. But we've played them 3 times this season and beat them 3 times. They haven't looked impressive in any of those games. Last season I would have agreed with you hands down, but the Dundalk we've seen this season have seemed a bit aimless and toothless up front. I certainly wouldn't consider them a far, far superior side.

That said, I still think they have the edge in terms of consistency and having won the league the last two seasons that will stand to them hugely, so I think they're certainly still favourites.
