I think a few more games could be played on Saturday afternoons.
has any fingal fan heard anything about the morton not being available on the 2nd October due to athletics??
someone heard it at our game the other night
No, didnt hear anything about it. Not yet anyway.
Anyone still want to argue that Satuday 1pm kick offs are a good idea?

Caught the first half and began to wonder what kind of viewership registered. I guess it goes to show the following our league has.
Moving games from Fridays isn't a problem. Timing them right is.Originally Posted by Saint_Charlie
In England, Scotland, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, anywhere else you can think of, live weekend domestic games are never shown at the same time as the other fixtures, when the target audience are out watching their own games. Here they are.
Sunday night is a good time for a live fixture, with no competition from games here or across the water. It stands out. 1pm on a Saturday is not going to work.

target TV audience isn't LOI fans who actually go to games - consider even if all 11 LOI games are on at the same time as a match on RTE thats still only what about 13,000 viewers - a small amount considering live games probably have 100,000 - 200,000 TV viewers (maybe someone has exact TV figures)
also consider LOI is only football on friday night (apart from indoor etc) unlike in england where so many levels play saturday at 3pm (sky are forbidden to show games at that time btw - its not their decision)
so I think friday night is a good option
agree sunday evening would be good aswell, though I suspect this may be more valuable to RTE's other scheduling (higher ratings) maybe 6pm would be possible, very much doubt RTE would do 8pm
RTE have a contractual obligation to show a certain number of games
they didn't want to show the cup qf on that friday night but had to show a game so they moved the pats qf to the saturday
instead, to fill up their numbers, they should have tried to show the rearranged bohs rovers midweek league game (only needed one of them to win to be rearranged so always likely)
someone should have seen this coming, biggest LOI game in years and it isn't on TV, while instead we got pats v fingal in front of less than 1,000 in a graveyard time slot on saturday lunchtime
once again, the major problem with Saturday games isn't competition from TV but junior, intermediate and schoolboy football

The biggest issue for live games is consistency. I.know a lot of people who earlier in the season were just getting used to a Friday night live match and then it was finished.
Imho Sunday night, 7pm would be the dogs, **** all competition except maybe poirot.
Now that the Gaa intercounty season is over it could be done.

Setanta showed games at that time. Definitely affected attendances. No ideas on TV figures

That's the problem, if its clashing with other LOI games of course it will. If the Sunday evening game became a stand alone fixture and was consistent then it can only be a good thing for the league. The people who go to games will always go most of the people watching at home couldn't darken the gates of the the flansiro, tolka or dalyer.
We should be attempting a long term view of this. Gates will be affected initially but If the games are picked right then people will want to go them after watching the product consistently over a period of time.
