French players suspended from national squad.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/8893705.stm

Nicolas Anelka has been banned for 18 matches by the French Football Federation (FFF) over his conduct at this summer's World Cup.
Anelka, 31, was sent home from South Africa after a row with coach Raymond Domenech and, in protest, the France squad boycotted a training session.
Patrice Evra was captain of the team and has been banned for five matches for his part in the revolt.
Franck Ribery has been suspended for three and Jeremy Toulalan for one.
Eric Abidal made up the five players who were summoned to the FFF disciplinary hearing on Tuesday and he escaped punishment.
Am I the only one who thinks that this really is just scapegoating to try and assuage public anger over their performance?

It could hit their Euro campaign; their first three games include a tricky trip to Bosnia and a home tie against Romania. But much to ban players of that calibre just to assuage the public. Sure there'll be another riot if they fail to qualify because of it.

It was unlikely that Anelka would have played for France again anyway.

Anelka laughed it off as hilarious, and didn't attend. Says it all about the guy though obviously John Terry, another scumbag, disagrees.

I think the FFF is right to make an example of these guys. No matter how much of a tool Domenech was, Anelka had to understand he must do what he is told and Evra should be made an example of too. I think the French public was more angry with the players' behaviour than their performances.

I think the FFF paved the way for the whole thing by sticking with Dominech for years after he lost the dressing room. As for the players, how the hell do you remain respectful of a manager who refused to select Robert Pires because he's a Scorpio? Who has presided over a series of pathetic tournament performances (the one exception seeming to be more the players trying to give Zidane a good send off than anything from the manager)?

The FFF could put the FAI to shame.

Definitely a poor move to ban several players so harshly, in my opinion. I wonder what the French public makes of the whole scenario?
