I'm no cheerleader of JD, never could be. However I don't believe his removal would help football in any way shape or form in Ireland. As Dodge rightly put it, when the clubs ran the show it was even worse. There is one sensible way out, but that would take self-control by clubs, professionality and intelligence - which means it will never happen. I hope Bohs can sort themselves out, the league needs them. The LOI needs every club in it, and more, we need a competitive, attractive league. The interest can be there, though it just never seems possible to tap into it.

the League will continue along the same way with or without us. We need to prove we deserve to be there.
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.

Just think how much publicity the league would get if John Delaney ran on the pitch whenever Waterford United won at home and threw his tie into the crowd. Or he could go on tour!

One of the most embarrassing sights in Irish football (and God there are plenty of contenders ) was the sight of Delaney "celebrating" on the pitch after Friday nights game.

He has managed to make his "extra team " at the World Cup finals debacle look reasonable. The man is a clown

    John Delaney

John Delaney running on to the pitch giving celebration signs of drinking was another great image for the younger fans watching on TV.

Well done to Frank & Irene for promoting the image of Ireland to the world.

Didn't think I'd ever see anyone use 'won't someone think of the children?!' on here sans sarcasm but there ya go.

Eh, no. I'll continue to give my opinion and last time I checked this was a messageboard where people give opinions. Thanks anyway and thanks for the dumb suggestions, they're not appreciated but thanks anyway

I'm not demanding anything. I'm making suggestions. Jees, chill the beans there, eh. Demanding. Paw-leese.

And yet anyone who tries to set your straight on any issue is either called a moron, or patronised. Interesting.
The suggestion that me alone should start a campaign with no clout and not a bean to my name was a dumb suggestion as anyone with half a brain would see. I make no apology for calling it as I see it.

The FAI need to invest in the league and actual market it. You all disagree it seems. I think an associaton that can pay its CE €400k per annum can spend some money on marketing their league to the masses.

The point, as anyone who has half a brain would see, is that the clubs are a) powerless and b) happy with their lot as they just voted to retain the status quo less than 6 months ago. So as dumb suggestions go, you started it...

The FAI has spent more than 400k in promoting the league through RTE (MNS).

Of all the things wring with the league, the FAI is only stractching the surface of them.

They were due €5m more over the course of the RTÉ deal I believe if it was just for the national team?

You know I was told they actually had to pay for MNS to be shown and then was told RTE paid them. It seems I have right, that's fair enough they do but quite pathetic RTE have to be paid to show a highlights programme of LOI football.

I'm aware they voted to keep the FAI, that wasn't my dispute. Mine is that I feel they don't done enough to promote the domestic game. I'm aware there's more deep-rooted issues, but I'm making the point about what the FAI, as custodians of the game, can perhaps do. One of the major issues is the attitude of the local population, I feel the best thing for that is a clever marketing campaign of a similar mode to what the rugby crowd did. Maybe it wouldn't work and it wouldn't change things overnight, but I think it's worthy enough for discussion and some consideration.

If our teams were handed qualification spots for the Champions League we'd be sorted alright - that was one clever marketing campaign they had in rugby....

    1) Rugby fans here don't idolise English rugby clubs
    2) can you give an example of any clever marketing the IRFU did?
    3) Even if you had the best marketing in the world you won't keep people around for more than the odd game with ****e facilities and ****e football

If the FAI had half a brain between them they'd ditch RTÉ and launch their own TV channel and take the International games with them. With the new Saorview platform the option is now there and it would be quite reasonable to run, along the lines of LFC TV or MUTV I'd imagine. They'd make far more than €5m over 5 years which is what they currently get from RTÉ. Plus they'd have the best marketing tool in Irish sport and a ready made platform to show as many games, highlights programs and whatever else as they like. But the Rugby boys or GAA will probably do it first.....

You're beyond insane if you actually believe that to be a viable option (forgetting about the illegality of it)

You're right about the viability but I doubt if it'd be illegal as long as it was on Saorview and not pay-per-view. Although it might be forced to bid for the rights to show games with RTE and TV3 which would be a farce as it would always "win".

I see the players are getting a €4million bonus for qualifying. But it's ok, the money's not the important thing for them. Therefore, I look forward to them donating it back to the FAI to save the spiritual home of Irish football.
If you attack me with stupidity, I'll be forced to defend myself with sarcasm.
