just as what some shams fans forget is that if we could walk away from our debt....... pointless cyclical argument really. Brian Shelley played for a period at Shams without getting paid at all were they penalised for this ? No. Similar happened at Shels, Cork Drogheda etc to other players
As I stated earlier I have no problem with them seeking to have their contract(s) honoured i just think that a press conference is not likely to generate too much sympathy/support especially if Bohs previous (good) treatment of players is highlighted. the fact that we are seeking to reach settlement with the players on outstanding monies is more than most clubs have done historically.
Dont think anybody has said it is all the players fault in fact on the contrary, but open to correction if you can point out where. Doubt Bohs fans are any more/less objective on this one than shams fans are so wont be going there.
Actually looking forward now to press conference on friday, it will be interesting to see what the lads have to say.
I think I will pass on your offer Stu..hopefully we can get some of the foot.ie tools to go...![]()

I think it just boils down to a difference of opinion on what is treating players well. As a Bohs fan perhaps you see the club as doing right by them in the past, but I think most neutrals would see that being persuaded to sign for Bohs because of a bigger wage, then having to take a paycut, then being let go at a terrible time to be looking for a club, then not being paid, then being promised to be paid, then being told the money is there but wont be paid, will see that the players are understandably at the end of the line with the Bohs board and have had enough.
When we were going down the swanny it was bloody awful, but we didn't start blaming a dry-cleaners, start trying to drum up support for rival dry-cleaners or lobby environmental agencies about the dangers of dry-cleaning. Nor did we look to re-employ Shelley, Pat McCourt and the other guys who were in our squad with contracts for a new year. We were f*cked, and started doing everything we could to find any way to survive. With Bohs keeping Fenlon around, giving press releases about applying for PD licencs, talking about re-signing some of last years squad, rumours about adding Glen Crowe instead of anyone who looked handy enough in a 5 a side game, it looks like Bohs are still missing the point. In such a situation, I really don't think you'll see many people think the players aren't justified in what they are doing.
Brian Shelley might be emigrating over this, who's Barry Murphy, Ken Oman, Raf Cretaro going to be playing for next year as all this drags on in to what is now pre-season? The players have had a very raw deal here, and Bohs fans seeing them shopping Dundrum and threatening them online doesn't change that. The players really are justified in the action they take.
Good to know what you really think of foot.ie skstu
no, its what i think of some users. They probably know who they are. Big difference Lep. Are you going to come?

bit of a non sequitur here but....
2 restaurants(mermaid & gruel) within spitting distance of the olympia have just closed down because.......they didnt pay their staff.. hmm interesting eh..
Christ i wish the season would hurry and start.
Cant wait for the new season. I'm full of innocent hope and expectation.
Anyone else excited about the new season ahead ?

Gruel and Mermaid closed because they were paying the ridiculous sum of 200k a year in rent and couldn't negotiate a reduction. As far as I know their staff have all been paid.
this thread is going off in mad tangents I would advise the address below for such inane foodie chatter.Gruel and Mermaid closed because they were paying the ridiculous sum of 200k a year in rent and couldn't negotiate a reduction. As far as I know their staff have all been paid.

It's hardly a tangent - placid was attempting to draw a comparison between an ailing business that shut down and another ailing business that may yet shut down and happens to be the subject of this thread. I just corrected him on the details.
I would imagine that Gray went legal early as he has previous experience of being left waiting at Derry last year.
It doesnt say "Some users "I was going to say something else but looking at superjohnny's post it could have already been posted and removed
I wont be there as the line up is not my thing. Now if you had some decent Oi! music in the Bohs bar then i could have gone to that but it looks like i will contribute to Bohs finances through attending all of our home games and partaking of the fine facilities on offer. If the Bohs fans that cant make the Bohs away games would like to join me in fundraising in this manner then it would go a long way to help Bohemian fc.

Jicked, Mc Guinness (PFAI rep) is previously on record as stating that Bohs were one of the better teams with regard to looking after players. Even in current difficult situation contracts have been offered to players that were injured most of last season (including Gray, ironically enough) as they would struggle to find clubs.
I can assure you that Bohs will be offering no new full time contracts this year (rumours or not) any players kept on will be on very diminished contracts 9cmpared to last year) and EVERY player has been offered the oppurtunity to find a new club - since the season ended - so there is no question of Bohs "blocking" players moving to new clubs.
As regards the nonsence of persuading players to sign on false pretences line, tell me any LOI club that has not encountered difficulties in honouring contracts at one time or other ? UCD about the only one that spring to mind. Are they all mistreating players, including your own ? now your club has money are they seeking to retrospectively pay off players that were previously left short ?
As I said before I fully agree that Shelley/ Gray are legally within their rights to take the action they are. Do I think they are morally right to seek to close down a club that is 120 years old and actively seeking to reach an accomadation with them over payment for next season (when I understand they will be in Australia) ? sorry, no.
Interesting that the players you are so concerned about Murphy, Oman, Cretaro have not seen the need to take this route - despite, no doubt disappointment (and probobly anger) at what has occured.
Finally, (I hope) nobody has blamed the players for this situation and I will reiterate again that the club is primarily responsible for this whole mess but two wrongs dont make a right and the oppurtunist action taken by two players seeking a quick payout before emigrating is not something to admire irrespective of the club concerned.

The real trouble for Bohs is coming down the tracks. The brains on the board have figured that they will survive this crisis. Now if they are a mickey mouse first division team getting beaten every week they will never drum up support to overcome the problems on the way. If they are a mickey mouse premier divison team as they have always been there is hope. Thats why they havent just cleared evryone they can out of the club. Thats my reading of the situation.

Bohs are going bust.
Dodge, not sure of the detail but think there is a "duty of care" requirement in repect of players that are injured at end of contract (PFAI sought this in discussions any way).
As regards sanity (or otherwise) of retaining any players for next season - the issue is subject of heated (and thats putting it mildly) debate among membership with many preferring a 100% amateur team for next season. It depends on how much it would cost to buy them out versus retention costs etc (how much more is having a few experienced players on board worth as opposed to buying them out). proposed fund raising scheme would cover their wages for next season but I have no idea RE contract details
