Interesting to see if he is just testing the waters as it is a friendly, or if he is really committed to us!

He said in the Herald that he's just testing the waters. Big decision in fairness. Father from Dublin but the attraction of US World Cup involvement....

Is that Herald article online, YoP? I wonder is he fully aware of FIFA's statutes on eligibility? Has he ever played for the US underage teams (U17/U19/U21)? If so, then I presume that he must change in order to be able to play for us in this game and since a dual-qualified player can only make one association change, he would be tied to us.

    article online here: http://www.herald.ie/sport/soccer/do...e-2508409.html
"I haven't made a final decision yet, there's still a chance that I could play for Ireland if I am asked," Doyle told the Herald.

"I was away with the US for two training camps but I haven't committed myself to them in any way.

"If the FAI ask me to come and train with them then I'll do that, and make a final decision on my international future after that.

"I haven't spoken to the Irish U21 manager yet but I know that he has spoken to my dad and he mentioned a possible call-up for a training camp and match next month, so if that call comes from Ireland I will, of course, come over and train and see the set-up for myself.

"I know I need to make a decision, I don't want to leave anyone waiting for me to decide, so if the Irish squad ask me to come to Dublin for a look I'd be happy to do it," added Doyle.
All goals, yellow and red cards tweeted in real time on mastodon, BlueSky and facebook

Future USA star. He'll come over here, it'l be pi$$ing rain, he'll get a sense of the melancholy in the air and catastrophically, mistake Noel King for a Mexican.

They can have the team coach stop off at Carroll's and the Guinness Storehouse before training so he can stock up on all the tat that the Yanks love. Charlie O'Leary can pop out from behind bushes at the training ground before scurrying away at regular intervals and we can tell him it's a leprechaun. He'll go back to Derby having witnessed the "craic" at first-hand and he'll be devoted to Ireland for life.

I think we should know soon enough either way. The US U-20 team will be having the U-20 World Cup qualifiers in April, with the finals starting in July in Colombia.
"Jacques Santini...will be greeted in every dugout of the country by "one-nil, one-nil" - Clive Tyldsley, 89th minute of France-England June 13, 2004.
"Ooooohhhh Nooooooo" Bobby Robson 91st minute.

Trap's a genius. He has told KIng to pick McCarthy for the U21s so Conor Doyle will see how bright the future is for the young Irish! Defeat in Cyprus would surely see Doyle choose the US.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Bob Bradley calls him up to the senior team for the Egypt friendly, on Feb 9th.

If he spent his life growing up in Texas, I find it hard to believe he is going to declare for Ireland. Still, the allure of playing close to England travel wise and (technically the chance) of playing in Euro could get this cowboy hooked.

He'd get more attention playing for Ireland than the US though. Like Stephen Ireland's comment about how it's a shop window.

What's the story with this lad? Played in the Cyprus friendly, but didn't feature against Portugal. Is he going with the USA?

He's going to the U20 World Cup with the US but he was always going to do that. Presumably he'll make his choice later.

The US lost 2-1 to Guatemala the other night so they are not going to the U-20 WC. Bit of a shock result. Actually Doyle scored their goal.

Oh really? That squad was supposed to be really well-fancied.

Yes the US U-21s were supposed to be a good group. The qualifying tournament was held in Guatemala. US teams (as most countries would) struggle when playing in Central America. A very hostile environment.
