What I don't understand is why he was pretending to be a Dundalk fan and was putting on a Drogheda accent. Weird....

Fair play to Tony McDonnell for his comments on the Man U friendly. I thought he was spot on with what he said.

I'm also surprised by finding myself agreeing with Roddy Collins on the same subject.

I’m not pedantic...I’m merely overly concerned with minute details.

    All those dropped "r" sounds.

That was real south Louth. Maybe not Drogheda town, but definately south Louth.

    Collon/Ardee direction perhaps.

He said the match was pointless from an LOI point of view and that people shouldn't get upset about the performance of a quickly-assembled side with two days of training by a manager who doesn't currently work with any of the players against a team who are one of the best in the world.

He also added it was a match for the FAI to raise funds and show off their fancy new stadium against a side who have more support in Ireland than the league itself. I think he said the FAI probably see the LOI as an "unnecessary evil" (I think those were his words).

Basically, he said on national television what most people who post here already know.

Yeah more of an ardee accent. We drop our Rs in Drogheda but in the mahhs bahh, stahh bahh, fahh side kind of way. Here more Dundawk people talk like the video than drogs.

Give Rodster a medal, called it like it was.
And fair play to Tony and Con, they stuck their necks on the line and said what needed to be said.
    Credit where credit is due.
And well Dave Barry, the usual incoherent bumbling rantings of a man that shouldnt be let near any form of television show.
Im sure hes a nice guy and a hero in Cork but he cant string one sentence togethor, if you are going to have a Cork man there stick in Morley because hes arrticulate and doesnt go down a cul de sac of inane incoherent rantings like Barry.

Exactly, it was just a stream of mumbling incoherent rants, not good for a show to do with punditry.

I enjoyed the skit too. I think it was supposed to be a mid-Louth accent. Definitely wasn't a Drogheda accent

' A necessary evil' I presume. Point is though, barstoolers (not the most subtly minded of people) won't take into account the lack of preparation etc. They'll just see: 7-1 - proves LOI is rubbish. That's why it was so deeply damaging - and people are quite right to be angry about it.

The chap who did the Mortimor Crawley piece is from Louth Village, which is about 8-9kms south-west of Dundalk so may explain the accent.
Thought it was funny. But got the urge to play a little bit of Footall Manager now.
