Saw something about this in the paper over the week, emailed the Central Bank who sent me this press release, however in their email they said that designers had to have their cv in by monday next september 16th 2004, which makes more sense since presumably they want the coin to appear next year, and the date corresponds to this year if you follow....
Design Competition for a
€10 Silver Coin
2005 has been designated as the International Year of Physics and the Government has declared that 2005 will be known in Ireland as the Hamilton Year of Physics, to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Sir William Rowan Hamilton, one of Ireland’s greatest mathematicians. The Central Bank & Financial Services Authority of Ireland is holding a design competition for a coin to honour this occasion.
Artists and Designers who would like to participate are invited initially to submit their Curriculum Vitae and samples or evidence of previous works for consideration.
The Bank will be advised by the Arts Council in shortlisting candidates. The shortlisted candidates will be invited to participate in the design competition and will receive a design brief, together with the technical specification of the coin.
