Interesting.......
There is one friendly between now and August. The NI and Scotland games are not friendlies. They're tribal derbies with points and a trophy at stake.Originally Posted by Kingdom

To football thoroughbreds such as myself and yourself Mypost sure, these are tribal games, with pride and continental honours at stake. To Trapatoni and the management team surely they'll remove themselves from such emotion and try to use the occasions to test untried players in pressure situations.
Here they come! It’s the charge of the “Thanks” Brigade!
There's another friendly date on the 7th june wonder will the FAI look for opposition ?

Saturday 26th March:
Armenia v Russia
Ireland v Macedonia
Andorra v Slovakia
I know you can't get fixated with other teams doing you a favour, but Armenia really could do us (and Slovakia) a real turn here. Even a draw would leave Russia on 10 points.
That said, we need to have our own house in order, first and foremost. A win is critical for us here if we harbour any lingering aspirations to get out of the group as group winners. A win would put us on 10 points.
Slovakia beating Andorra would put them on 10 points.
Quoting years at random since 1975
Agree Wolf would nice of Armenia to some how pull one out.
No Somos muchos pero estamos locos.
Am I the only one that thinks Armenia are actually contenders in this group. Lets be honest this is a poor group and I think it is quite feasible that any team bar Andorra can actually get a top two spot.
I am all for getting on with the job in hand, which is winning our games. At the end of the group if we have not amassed sufficient points off our own bat, then other results in the group are pretty irrelevant.
What are people's thoughts on Trap's meeting with McCarthy. I can't believe a word Trap says about that after his version of events regarding the Stephen Ireland meeting. I think the fact that Wigan actively set up a meeting for McCarthy with Levein and seem to be discouraging him from playing for Ireland will be the telling factor in the end. But hey, no worries though, Glen Whelan and Keith Andrews for the next 10 years ... thats a force for anyone to reckon with .....
At the moment they're contenders and hats off to them. They still have their toughest 4 matches to come. The next 2 games is where the group should seperate, as it's the back to back meetings - and they have Russia. Now if they are no worse off (i.e. 2 behind Russia) after the return in Moscow, then they will be definitely in with a shout as they'll have as near a banker following up, and then anything coul happen.
I would be extremely disappointed if we didn't dispatch Armenia in November with no fuss. saying that once they're beaten I'll be happy-fuss or not!
Exactly. It's why not beating Slovakia when they were there for the taking makes it really annoying. Instantly it would have compensated for the beating at home, and given us room for maneouvre later on if necessary. Every game is a cup final from now on.I am all for getting on with the job in hand, which is winning our games. At the end of the group if we have not amassed sufficient points off our own bat, then other results in the group are pretty irrelevant.

They've had some impressive results in the group so far and are the highest scorers with a better GA record than us. Should we qualify, Fahey's winner over there will have had a lot to do with it. With their challenging surnames and penchant for results, they're practically the new Cyprus. All I ask of them is further damage to Russia, Slovakia and Macedonia and I'm glad our next encounter with them will be in Dublin.
Their squad is here anyway: (translated from the FFM site, the FAI have nothing yet)

"Macedonia’s defence is marshalled by Mainz’s captain Nikolce Noveski. Mainz are impressing this season in the Bundesliga, sitting in 5th position. The tall stylish defender is captain of Mainz"
Did you tell us that point to instigate fear or reaffirm how good he is?
Ipsiwhc - macedonian for Ipswich :P (as per the BBC website...)
Sorry good article im only amusing myself here at work!

I think Armenia are the likely kingmakers rather than contenders.
In answer to French Toasht, I don't really have any reason to doubt Trap's version of events wrt meeting McCarthy. Let's just hope the issue is put to rest soon.
I believe the only meeting between Levein and McCarthy occurred early last year. There's been some suggestion that Wigan organised it but 'facilitated' is probably more accurate. As they presumably did with Trap last week.
I didn't realise Pandev walked out on Macedonia after the 2-2 home draw against Armenia. Typical he decides to show up against us. http://www.irishtimes.com/sports/soc...292392813.html
Armenia could do us a huge favour today by drawing with or beating the Russians. They will probably need to score two goals to get anything from the game. A repeat of their home performance against Slovakia might be enough.
I'll also have the stream of the Sri Lankan run chase against England, as a back up sweetner.
