I think you are contradicting yourself Paul, is it the tactics or the players not playing the tactics?
Anyway, I don't think the tactics are really the issue, the major issue is more to do with the quality of the CM and their midfield awareness. Apart from one aspect - their lack of football ability, often they are exposed, either leaving gaps in front of them or behind them, too far foreword or too deep. It use to be that we would form a disciplined line in front of the back 4 and face the threat in our 1/3 of the field. That discipline has been replaced since the home game against Russia when the enemy got in behind the midfield with ease. So if they get in behind, doesn't that suggest the CM are too far foreword, the holding midfielder is awol?
