Aye Steve, Rory writes a bit in the Sligo Weekender and does some work for the club as well if I'm not mistaken.
He's a staunch Bit O Red supporter as well. Didn't know he was working for RTE now.

The irony that it was written by a Sligo Rovers fan and people reckoned it was Shams Con should not be ignored.

Dan Murray's having a stormer. Or "Danny Murphy" as Eoin Hand has decided to refer to him, presumably in homage to the other Danny Murphy beside him.

Very tiring game for Shams tonight, I think Bohs should do the honourable thing and postpone the weekend game.

Restricting Juventus to 3 goals is hard work for any LOI team. I look forward to Sligo's attempts to restrict it further...

I thought the Italian players were very respectful towards the Irish lads. Great seeing Del Piero with his arm over bradleys shoulders and having a bit of a laugh. When they made a sub, the Italian coming off put his hand out to shake a rovers player hand etc etc I was very impressed with their attitude - it could have been all too easy for them to look down on Rovers but they treated them as equals.

Always liked Juv from a kid when I watched Italian footie on channel 4 (it was brill) - it was always a bit weird as I did'nt grow up following english footie so in school I could name all the Italian teams and most of their players but hadnt a clue who won in the uk at the weekend - confused my mates a fair bit.

To finish - WHAT A GOAL - if you are going to be beaten , then that is a goal to be beaten by. 35 and still strong - old Del clearly still has it.

LOI players and fans are treated as equals everywhere in europe bar Ireland.

sad to dsay I didnt get to travel when the drogs played abroad - just didnt have the funds at the time but it must be a great experience seeing what you describe Dodge. Here at home it does feel like your under siege as n LOI supporter.

Keep promising myuself (since a kid) I would get to games in italy - maybe I will get off my arse and finally book for a game in the new season. Anyone ever go to a Juv game?

Didn't mean that last line to sound so harsh BTW but it is great SeanDrog. Been to 6 away games in Europe now and everywhere we've been the locals always come up and chat about football whether its smaller countries like malta or huge countries like Germany. They all understand what its like to follow your team

this is exactly what i was going to say. i was really impressed the way juventus conducted themselves over the 2 legs. really gave shams total respect on the pitch and in the media and not in a patronising way. lesser teams have shown a lack of respect for our teams in europe in the past but not Juve. I will be cheering them on for the rest of the campaign and it would be brilliant if they got to the final in dublin and i think a lot of people over here would go out and support them.

on the game i though shams were brilliant, played really well and tried to use the ball when they got possession. i slated dan murray last week but in fairness he had a great game last night, totally in command and the biggest scoring threat. i was proud to be a LOI supporter last night. well done rovers.

Well done Rovers, must have been a good night for Rovers fans, even considering the weather. Actually, the memories of watching your team hold Juve at 0-0 until a superb Del Piero freekick seperated the sides might even be given a warmer glow when you consider the driving rain for virtually the whole game. Rovers fans seemed to be there in good numbers too, it was a shame that the camera didn't show them more often.

On the game, there's no doubt that the rain hindered Juve more than Rovers, but so what? The reason it was 0-0 with 16 minutes to go wasn' the rain, but Rovers' determination, and indeed Murray's performance. It will have been a great night, and european experience for all of them. I actuallt felt a little sorry for Twigg, as the role he had to play for bothe legs must have been quite frustrating for him.

Good show by Rovers. Slightly made up for the shame of Aviva.
Talking before the Aviva debacle, Rico's defensive attitude towards the slaughter was laughable. 'People are naieve to look at the result alone'. I can only presume he's finally gone mad. I had quite a lot of respect for him only a few days ago, but he's now sunk to near John Delaney depths in my disdain. If he's on MNS on Monday, I hope he's taken to task over it.
    Anyway - well done Rovers.

It was too much like a competitive friendly. Shake hands after the game but rib the bollíx out of them on the pitch. You wouldn't have got any Juve players smiling and offering handshakes if Rovers had gone into the lead.
Thought Rovers were excellent. Not up there with Drogheda's exploits in Russia but still a highly commendable composed performance. Great that RTE showed it live.
