Sheffield Wednesday friendly 1990s?

Hi Lads
Does anyone remember a UCD friendly against Sheffield Wednesday in the 1990s? If so, would anyone have a programme for the game? that they no longer want?

Don't remember the game (only started going to games in 1997), and I've definitely never seen a programme for it (certainly nothing in the club shop at the moment, for example). I'd say at most, we would have done a team sheet for a game like that.

Declan Hughes is the one you need though; I'll ask him on Friday if you want.

Super, please do. A Wednesday collector in England is looking for it so I'm trying all possible avenues to get one for him if it exists.

Yeah, no worries. You don't know any more details (exact year, result, anything like that)? Just curious as much as anything.

Also, I didn't know Wednesday were hit with a winding up order last week.

Is you friend sure about either or both teams?
Because I don't remember playing a team as big as Sheffield Wednesday in the 1990's, Sheffield University would be a different matter.
I have spoken with a well respected fan and Club Historian at UCD and he is adamant that we didn't play Sheff. Wednesday home or away, Officially.
He mentioned IFK Gothenburg as a compromise. He suggests that maybe another Dublin club competed.
An alternative is that the Sheffield Wednesday squad were over here and maybe using the International squad complex at the UCD campus.
And played a friendly on one of the pitches against a UCD squad, that would allow for UCD to be part of the Irish Tour when the Wednesday squad returned to England but goes unnoticed in Dublin, expect for the man and his dog.

In 1991 Irish Universities travelled all over Yorkshire during the World Student Games, which was centred on Sheffield.
Huddersfield Town Leeds Road Stadium and a cricket ground Stockbridge were some of the closest UCD players got. The final was meant to be Hillsborugh but ended up at Valley Parade, Bradford.

We held a major University Football Tournament around 1989 and the giants of Loughborough Univ. came over. Maybe a few Yorkshire Universities competed aswell.
