The dedication of this bunch to each other is to be commended. We have one player who had a horrific leg break in April 2010 yet was able to come back as good as ever this season. We had players who were out of work yet still driving to Limerick to train and pay the increased cost of training. We had players drive from Dublin & Cork etc for training and matches despite the results not going our way. There were times we were low on numbers for many reasons yet still they gave it everything.
A few lads got together last June and put a list of players together. Those players discussed if it was better to withdraw from the division our A team was in (1B) or our B team (2B) and they decided to give 1B a crack. I'm not sorry they did as they showed great desire to put some pride back into the shirt.
The highlight of the season was probably the semi final cup win away to Caherconlish, 5 days after losing to them in the league. Caherconlish are a fine side who have been surging up the leagues in recent years. Unfortunately we could not repeat that in the final and we didn't play well in the first half an hour. When the players came out for the second half they gave it everything & scored two brilliant goals. Cappamore did enough to win though. One word about their manager Con Barry - you could go to any 1B game that Cappamore are not involved in & there he is scouting. He is a very dedicated chap to the club and good luck to him & Cappamore on their win. We just wish it had been us winning it.
Whoever wins 1B (Caherconlish or Pike) will make worthy champions, but Cappamore have promotion to play for too so their game V Caherconlish should be a tasty encounter. This has been one of the most competitive divisions in Limerick soccer ever seen. It's just a pity our lads did not get more out of the season, but I am very proud of the effort they put in for Herbertstown AFC.
