Drumcondra already has a team. North Co. Dublin may not have much in the way of footballing history but it was crying out for a team to represent the area.

Cant see the club lasting for much longer ala.. dublin city.

If there was a need for a new dublin club (which i would question) why wasn't a team such as drumcondra fc revived? Good history, ready made ground (tolka), and a finacial backer and supporter in bertie.

Well, if they can get a good result on Thursday, that's all the history their fans will need. History builds up quickly when you're winning things!

I also don't understand why people are so hostile towards Sporting Fingal. They are a new club set up in an area that had no LOI representation. They are hardly like Dublin City who set up a new club in an area that already had a LOI club. If Tralee or Carlow manage to get into the Premier, will people have the same attitude?

Or is all this hostility to do with money? Ok, they are being heavily backed financially, which probably gives them a false position, but they are hardly going to win new fans when they are rooted to the bottom of division 1.

I for one, hope they get a decent support base together, and are around for a long time.
Great, great post sullenafc. Many on here bemoan the fact we cant get investment in the LOI but when a new club does get it they are greeted with nothing but begrudery.
Best of luck to Fingal, hope they can show full time football does work. As a football team they are one of the better reasons to watch LOI and that is slightly more important than the name, FFS at the first meeting of Bohs 7 founding members in 1890 they voted on a name- out come, Bohemian 4 ROVERS 3 ! Now that could have been tragic

Drums still going strong, although after 15 years playing in Morton, they were shafted by both Fingal Co Council and Sporting Fingal a couple of seasons ago. Should have called them Not-so-Sporting Fingal.

As we are on the subject of unusual club names, who remembers EMFA who were elected to the LOI during the 80's? Later changed name to Kilkenny City.

Personally I think the name is refreshing, better than another F.C., United, Town, City, County . . .

Also, Sporting ______ > ______ United (not to insult fans of Monaghan, Mervue, Waterford, Drogheda . . . even Limerick and Cork, previously, I just thinlk the name SOUNDS better.)

*in before a reference to the number of fans they have / some crack about property developers
So your tying to offend fans of Galway United?

Funny that I missed them considering I have a soft spot for them among the Prem clubs
