In no way should 'barstoolers' be the barometer we measure ourselves against

Why does it bother you so much ? I dont care what you think of it as this was raised 3 years ago so why didnt you mention it then ? SPORT IN FINGAL.

    Fingal Athletic would be perfect

would cover the multisport angle too

as for barstoolers attracting more of them to games is crucial to the league's development. we should be trying to present neutrals and barstoolers with a product that looks professional, credible and well run, not mickey mouse, small time and amateurish. Sponsors like Pat Grace's Famous Fried Chicken and Hunky Dorys and names like Sporting Fingal harm the image of the league

going back to my original post I would be interested if anyone has any info regarding how this name was chosen, what other names (if any) were considered

    1. There are far worse sponsors names in the world - like Beate Uhse, as one Regionalliga Sud team foound out - silly point altogether.
    2. Maybe it's that you're wumming so much or it's too late in the evening, but it's already been explained why it was chosen, go back to the 2nd page and please ask your folks to up the dosage of calpol

Remind me which aspect of sponsorship you consider amateurish? God forbid a club would attempt to develop itself by, I don't know, adopting a distinctive name and attracting sponsorship money.

Your idea of "professional, credible and well run" appears to be slavish imitation of England.

I understand this is why the English premier League conspired to relegate Leicester and their "awful" walkers arena. Pat Grace hasn't sponsored the league in 25 years, so no new fan could use that excuse

    Seriously, your arguments are pathetic

Obviously Home Farm should be banned from the league on account of their agricultural imagery - surely not the kind of thing we should be trying to promote in a professional league? St. Patrick's Athletic will need to be dissolved on account of the religious element, however they will be able to continue as "Inchicore Athletic" as that is an approved term. Bohemians will need to make some changes as we don't allow any of that "European" nonsense in our league.

This would be so much easier if the clubs would just embrace the change and name themselves things like Stoke City and Manchester United.

Here now, Stoke are the second oldest professional club in the world! The other teams are the cheap imitations, Leicester and Cardiff and the like!

The only problem is that we don't have a Stoke in Ireland. Perhaps we could persuade Galway to "rebrand" as Stoke - I mean what tourist is going to take it seriously as a professional city with a name like "Galway"? Best just give a nice snappy name that we know has worked in the past.

    "Join the winning team"

Does that mean they'll be Chelsea next season?

Maybe Pats can find a way around it - Inchicore S.P. Athletic, er, actually, drop the S.P.

Never liked the idea of just startin up a new team in the league of ireland especially in dublin. The name is fine in itself its just that the club has no history to call apon and therefore will never build a large following. It just all seems pointless and a waste of time to be honest. Cant see the club lasting for much longer ala.. dublin city.

If there was a need for a new dublin club (which i would question) why wasn't a team such as drumcondra fc revived? Good history, ready made ground (tolka), and a finacial backer and supporter in bertie.
