Plenty of reasons, but mainly money !
We had a better class of player so we played better football, that meant we won more games and in turn more locals came through the turnstiles.
But since then it's slowly got worse season by season.
How did we go from 6th in 2008 to bottom in 2009?
(I wasn't really followingwhat was going on at the time - too immersed in foreign football.)

The 6th place to finishing bottom the next season seems drastic...thought there may have been more to it.
Remember in 2008, ye couldn't pay your wages, so the team was obviously more than you could afford. Presumably you're trying to cover some of that loss now, so it's a bit of a double whammy.
That was for the last 4 weeks of that season, i wouldn't say that is still effecting us. We are just being far more safe with what little money we have.
Youth development is more important than ever now to all clubs in the League, it is certianly the way we will be looking for players from now on.
I'm assuming that not paying wages was as a result of decent-sized debts being built up throughout the season. But it comes down to, as you said, being more safe with the money ye have, which is costing ye.
So, near the end of 2008 we ran out of money and ended up letting the better players go, hence the bottom finish in 2009?
Well when you pay people 52 weeks of the year and your closed down for 16 weeks with no income coming through the gates what do we expect, glad to hear we back on a 36 week payment scheme.
I'm not sure if we have ever paid wages 52 weeks of the year, if we have i would be pretty sure it was only a few players (3/4 at max).
At that time we paid some players fairly big wages, the likes of Cawley, Delaney, Rowe all would have been really well paid by the club. We spent more money than we had ion the hope of winning silverware, that didn't happen.
No good in having youth development when the club keep selling the good youths we get.
Between the end of 2008 and the start of 2009, we lost a big chunk of our fringe players, which did a lot of damage to the overall quality of our squad.

What kind of contracts are our players on? 1 year contracts?
