10.30 / 1.30 Kick Off sounds like a great idea. I don't think any of the teams have got too far to travel, apart from maybe Breska or Ferry.

About the kick-off times, most clubs already struggle to get a bit of a crowd to watch matches at 11.30. There would be no chance at all getting people to watch games on a Sunday morning if it was 10.30 everyweek so I'm not so sure it's a great idea. On the other hand though 2.30 is very late and your whole day is gone if your waiting for a match at that time.

P.s. Also we saw with the bad frost last winter a lot of games went ahead at 11.30 that would no way have went ahead at 10.30 between how bad the roads were and the fields, at least at 11.30 they get some chance of defrosting.

Wo wo woh!! what's all this about bringing the games forward an hour for every weekend? Someone mentioned families there. Pah! What about us single boys who are out til all hours of a sat nite/sun morning?? That extra hours sleep could be the difference between scoring a hat trick or being nutmegged on your goal line in the dying minutes of a tied game. Where's the humanity? ...Jesus!!

You could always stay in the night before a match.... just throwing it out there.

Was looking at Abbeyfeales "great" start to the season, turns out the 3 teams they beat have a combined points total of 1 point after 10 games between them. So maybe they shouldnt be getting too excited.

Broadford normally come good in the second half of the season so i reckon they'll avoid the drop. Even though its early days I'd worry for Adare. Im unsure about Glin too.

10.30 itself doesnt sound too early, but most Prem teams do 3/4 hour warm up. so thats being at the pitch around 9.35 to get changed etc.
so how long would it take (as an extreme example) to get from ferry to breska? 30 mins? So thats leaving the house at around 9. and there's the breakfast and everything before that.
I just think its a bit early is all

and not many teams would be able to afford to rent Clounreask too regularly. NCW rovers will be praying for a mild winter methinks

    Ya right.

But ya you're right snafu, teams like Abbey and Ferry are a good 35 - 40 mins drive from a lotta places. But realistically if the times were changed, not much else would change, everyone would still go to a match at 10:30 that they would've gone to at 11:30. Ask me tom makes a valid point about the hard frost and that's the only real reason not to change times. Anyway, is it on the cards outside this website or just a suggestion someone made here?
Has the Oscar Traynor side been picked or what's the story with that? have I missed it?

The only issues brought up at the meeting preseason were playing the league cup first and having 8 teams in the premier (I think?).
I dont think it has been brought up outside this website. Perhaps it would be something to think about for next season.

I havnt heard anything about the Oscar traynor team yet.
I can only presume that Shannonside will be represented well in it.

maybe they should look into bringing the games forward to 10.30am only at start of the season while the weather is ok like no frost or snow and put it back to 11.30am in the winter time...

2 good games this weekend in abbeyfeale v askeaton and shannonside v newcastle rovers....it should be interesting

I like the comment about the young single lads getting that extra hours sleep.... You young lads should have plenty of energy to be able to do both... But it doesn't last forever hahaha. I was thinking of the more experienced, mature, settled player. No I don't think this issue was discussed. Would be interesting to get a feel of what the players felt.
Was there any reasons given as to why they would reduce the premier league? Playing a few games at Clounreask is a great idea but I don't think its practical for many clubs, given the costs involved. If clubs were able to come to an agreement with one another, perhaps both sides sharing the costs...Then maybe so.This would then perhaps encourage more sides to charge people a minimal fee to come and watch.
Valid point Ask me Tom makes when he mentions the hard frost late last season....I think we'll all be praying for a mild winter this year.
Nothing heard about the Oscar Traynor side yet, does anyone know who is going to be manager? Who do people think will make the side this year? Anyone who should definitely be there?

Abbeyfeale and Askeaton should be a good one... As should Shannonside and Rovers, both sides unbeaten nad will be determined to be so come the end of ninety minutes. Going for a draw and a shannonside (close) win.

Who was over the team when they won 2 years ago? if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Oh and Leeroybrown, unfortunately I didn't say young single lads, I just said 'single lads' - so I actually do need that extra hours sleep.

Lads i have nothing against PJ Kinsella but that man does not have a clue about football. Dont get me wrong the man has great interest and dedication but been appointed as manager of the oscar traynor team is a joke.

Was he the only applicant or do the desmond league commitee even give a **** anymore about this competition. Were any managers in the league contacted can any one tell me?

I'm a big follower of the league having a team to represent us in this competition and that we should have all our best players on it. But if the likes of Pj is in charge, if i was a manager i would be telling my players not to bother playing for the oscar traynor and risk injury if this thing is a joke. A weekend off would do them alot better.

For god sake we won the thing a few years ago. Get someone good in and we can try win it again. Christy Purcell wouldnt be a bad start.

    Its just my opinion!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fair enough omarbarksdale, my bad...Good point made in regard to managing the Oscar Traynor side, as with everything really. As for anyone applying for the role I've no idea, perhaps many of the managers feel they have enough to contend with at their club without adding to their workload. As Gearysfan says though, the League should have a decent side to represent it and the players should be made to feel its something worth aiming for. To represent your county/league should be regarded as an a achievement.

Too right lads. With respect for PJ Kinsella, he loves the game and we need more people like that but Rudy didn't get a run out for the Fightin' Irish til the last game of the season for a reason. Y'know? I'm just saying this is something we should take seriously as a league with a good reputation over the last few years.

I don't think you will see much players interested playing with PJ as manager, players will play only if it's not a waste of time and is taken serious.
It has to be someone will a good football head on them, and there are plenty out there in alot of the clubs. People who were either previous managers or players... It's a pity that the heart and pride has gone out of representing your League! Maybe more players that haven't played in the Oscar Traynor in previous years should be given a call up, players who might appreciate it a bit more!! (not saying that ALL current/previous players who played didn't appreciate it)

I agree Gearysfan PJ is a grand fella but would'nt be up to the standard needed for the oscar traynor job. But reading the observer over the last few weeks I noticed the deadline for applications kept being extended so the interest cant have been great. Its alarming the amount of players that dont get involved in coaching when there playing days are over, last year newcastle and abbeyfeale had to pay a manager for the season. These 2 clubs would have a realistic chance of winning a trophy each season and they still struggled to get somebody to take on the job. Its a warning to every club in the desmond league that this could be a problem going forward in the next couple of years. Its a long season which takes up a lot of time and commitment and the same lads wont keep coming back year after year.
