Has anybody have a report of the rathkeale and shannonside match yesterday. Must have been a cracker with 7 goals. Not a great start by rathkeale though. Shannonside will be a force to contend this year since St senans are gone from the football so early. Big win for abbey. Hopefully adare can bounce back after that but I suppose they were short a few threw the football
    Not too many other surprises

was gonna go and watch the shannonside v rathkeale game but went to the abbeyfeale v adare game instead...good start for abbey under new manager gerry cronin but in fairness adare were missing players over the football and 3 players got injured also..hopefully adare can get their player back for the home game against askeaton..big shock that shannonside beat rathkeale by 5-2..was anyone at that game to report on??askeaton and newcastle west off to a winning start also against broadford and killeaney..and ncw rovers drawing with glin rovers in newcastle west also..anyone predicting on who will be relegated this year and who will come up to the premier divison??

great result for askeaton yesterday....have to say some of broadford lads didnt give a care about the player down in the match after a 50/50 clash which seen the player carried away.quote from one player ....its not our problem you have a player down........ not to dwell on this the game in general was a good game to watch both teams went for it for the whole 90 mins

I don't see any people taking up refereeing in the near future. Why would any sane man subject himself to the abuse being directed at himself from players, club officials and spectators week in week out? Until the League and the clubs stamp it out the refs situation will not improve. I was at the Creeves v Feenagh game yesterday and the ref sent off a player for verbal abuse. The player continued to F and Blind the ref even as he departed the field. I know that if it was me I'd have thumped the player. My young son was with me and it left me wondering if I will ever bring him to a match again. So why take up refereeing with that going on?

Fair point NOTACLUE but I honestly believe the referees by and large enjoy doing it. Theyre all nice guys, some of them are poor thats for sure, some of them are very good but they seem to enjoy it, they dont get such abuse all the time although incidents like that one in Creeves are certainly not acceptable. Its a few quid too and its theyre excercise for them too so its not all bad.

An accidental clash occured between two players. Referee Liam O'Connor correctly blew for attention due to an Askeaton player in obvious distress. Askeaton kicked the ball out of play anyway. Player recieved attention. He was strechered off, although turned out to be fine thankfully. All 3 Broadford managers came over to the situation when he was on the ground, Kieran Sheehan brought the first aid bag with him. Jj Murphy offered to abandon the game to call an ambulance rather than risk moving him. Play resumed with a Broadford throw,(referee never whistled for a foul, just stopped play). Bob Boyce threw it back to the Askeaton goalie. Away we went.... Facts.

Good point and I wouldn't blame you. I think the verbal abuse has become a big problem. In fairness guys like Ger O Connor and Donie O Gorman are well able to deal with it but some refs just take all the abuse and accept it, especially from the better known players for the so called big sides. There is usually not too many horror tackles or big flare ups in the Desmond league as there is a fair degree of respect between teams, even in derby matches. I would have to say the refs deserve every penney they get because its hard to take all that crap every Sat/Sunday.

Also was at the Old Mill v Carrig Celtic game on Sunday. Carrig seemed to have re-grouped from last season and look like they will be a big threat in Div 1 this yr. Old Mill nearly got back into the game with a spirited fightback but Carrig deserved their victory.

It was Paul O'Brien who reffed the Creeves match and had a good game overall. He seems to be a fairly nice guy and usually does his best in all games.

Have you any more details of the Old Mill v Carrig Celtic game? It seems that it was very exciting.
I spoke to a Glin Rovers supporter this evening and while he thought that the first yellow for Ollie Mulvihill in their match v NCW Rovers was harsh, the second was a given. He also said that the performance was very good to get a point playing away for nearly an hour with 10 men, and that with a full side they won't be in a relegation battle this year.
