Good game in fairness both sides gave everything there wasn't much between the sides at all I'd say but Shannonside took their chances so Askeaton can have no complaints, Surprised if i'm honest to see NCW beat Rathkeale. Another good win for Abbeyfeale today in Glin.

Went to watch this one. League winners for the past two seasons so i said it would be good. It was an enjoyable game to watch with plenty of chances for both sides. Power and young shanahan stole the show for me. Power got 2 and shanahan scored the winner. Rathkeale still are the best team in the league to pass a ball by a long way compared to any other team. They missed barry up front in my opinion.
Its a great start to the league to see it all changed but i will say that you should not rule out NCW or Rathkeale come the end of the season. They both showed enough fight yesterday to suggest that they dont want to just let the title slip away
I went to the match as well and i must agree with you..i thought shanahan was man of the match in my eyes..played outstanding and got the winner..power also played well and got two good goals including a great free kick..rathkeale are a good passing team and showed it yesterday..rathkeale got 2 soft goals.long range shot that the stand in keeper misjudged it and went in and the second the keeper palmed the ball off a ncw defender and went in for an own goal..

NCW seem to have trouble keeping a consistant goalkeeper, over the last 3 years I've seen Noel Murphy, John joe Sheehy, Pa Kenrick, Tommy Quinn(pretty sure I've missed out on 1or2 more) all play in goals at some stage or another do you think this could effect their chances of winning the league? It certainly seemed to cost them against Athea in the cup semi final last year anyway.
Having a confident and regular goalkeeper does help especially for a settled back line. Chopping and changing keepers can lead to confusion and mix ups, particularly at set pieces. Will this hamper NCW's title challenge hard to say, they're a quality side, mixture of experience and youth and the back 4 generally don't let much slip by. I wouldn't write them off for the title this season just yet, very early days. They will be there and there abouts, even if they dont' eventually win it, they'll have a big say in where the title does go.
For Rathkeale its 2 defeats I don't think they can afford too many more, if any. In saying that though, they're another quality side with good players, and as already mentioned, do pass the ball extremely well. Very hard to break down and don't usually concede many. Both teams will be there and there abouts, and if are not winning the title themselves, they will have a massive part to play in where the title eventually goes.
What do people think of Abbeyfeales chances this year?
whats the feeling out there on the 10.30 kick off (1.30 afternoon games) last couple of weekends due to all ireland finals.
Personally I think it should be these kick off times every week, they use these times in the city league and it seems to work out ok.
I'd agree with a change in kick off times. I would like to see all matches with a 10:30 kick off but I understand the problems involved in that, particularly with the number of referees involved. 10:30 kick off's are a good time as it allows fellas to be able to do something with the remainder of their Sunday's, especially those with families. Even the afternoon matches being brought forward are a good idea. How about playing some of the matches on a Friday evening aswell?

I think more night games are the way to go ....are Abbeyfeale the only club in the league that have night games?
personally id like to keep the current KO times. 10.30 is a bit early on a Sunday morning especially if you are travelling a good distance to an away game. There used be evening games at the start of previous seasons but not this season for some reason. playing games on a Fri nite at this stage would not be practical due to the evenings shortening. Im surprised at the NCW goalkeeper situation for a town with a population 3 or 4 times greater than the next biggest town in the league that they cant get a regular keeper. Keith Power has played there aswell. Abbeyfeale remind me of a poor mans arsenal they can play some nice soccer but when push comes to shove they never really amount to anything. NCW for the prem title. i wonder what is up with broadord, glin and r.keale and their poor starts to the league?
Abbeyfeale are the only team with floodlighting...
About the kickoff times perhaps 11.00 and 2.00pm would be better. During the winter a lot of cup matches k.o. at 2.00pm as they may require e.t. and pens. I for one would think that in mid-winter it would be nice for all concerned to be home in time for the premier game on tv. As for 11.00am it wouldn't be too much of an inconvenience to everybody concerned. What about playing midweek games in Clounreask as it's not overly used during the winter months?

Playing midweek games in Clounreask might be an option if clubs are willing to pay for doing so, far as I know the junior league charge either €100 or €150 per game. This might be an ok amount for some clubs but may not be for others. When you factor in that some clubs may want to hire out Clounreask more than once but because of the current finiancial climate may not be able to do so. Just a thought
