If it hit the post and then the keeper, I would expect thats a goal as well. Don't think a penalty is any different to a goal from open play that way.
I'm sure either of the ref's on here might know the actual rules though.
Cant fault the keeper too much there I think. Only natural if it's blown up in the air like that to celebrate.
match on this morning in the cross lads. I hope the pitch won't be too bad for tonights game.
1 nil at half time to Wilton. Wilton much the better side
Update lads? Couldnt make it tonight.
2 nil Wilton deserved it I thought much better on the night. Kinsale had a 15minute spell alright midway through second half missed a couple of chances. Well done to wilton
Well done witon. Much of a crowd lads?
man of the match? any contoversary
Yeah, I'd go along with that, thought Wilton deserved it too. Played much nicer football on the night. I can only really remember the one chance missed by Kinsale but it was a sitter. Came across the goal to a player at the back post and it looked easier to score than miss but he didn't catch it well at all and skewed it off the post.
Don't know many names of the players but thought Shane O'Neill was man of the match. Scored the first and won the penalty in the last minute. The center half who scored the penalty looked decent for Wilton too, really composed at the back. And the center midfielder ran the show too with lovely cross field balls. No real controversy but I wouldn't mind if I could see a replay of the penalty as it could have been a dive(Not sure if others saw it that way?). Although it was wreckless of the Kinsale defender to leave his leg hanging there either way.
Shane O Neill scored one and "won" a penalty. It wasnt a dive but agree it was clumsy and Shane O Neill played for it. Nonetheless Wilton well worth the win as predicted but admittedly if Kinsales one and only chance from open play had gone in off the post instead of deflected outward, different ball game. Without a shadow of a doubt Giltenan and Daly two best players on park, Dalys first half performance should probably give him the nod. In fairness to Wilton they did well considering two of their starters went off injured during game.
Wilton well deserved there win tonight. Much better team for majority of the game bar a 10min spell that kinsale had in 2nd half where they had 2 real chances, 1 as was said already was an absoulte sitter. On the man of match not sure who got it as left a few min early but i would prob of given it to Stephen Daly in the middle, his distribution of ball throughout the entire game was second to none, shane o neill and the 2 centre halfs had very good games also, delt with kinsales main threat of the set pieces and long throws. was a def pen Learpholl and i think the reaction of the kinsale players said it all as there wasnt much protesting done. Well done again to Wilton and unlucky to Kinsale on nearly doing the treble, would of been a fantastic achievement.
Fair point and I think most refs would give that as a penalty most of the time. I was right behind the goal for it and I'd agree with thebooboys, Shane O'Neill was definitely playing for it but as I said, it was wreckless of the defender to leave his leg out like that either way.
Anyway, no point talking about that after a good display by Wilton who deserved their victory and would've got it with or without that last min penalty.
Daly got man of the match he was different class I thought. I thought it was a stonewaller you can't hang a leg like that.. Say it was tiredness out of the full back more than anything.
Also thought Wilton were well on top and clearly the better footballers as I suspected they would be.
Again Daly was fantastic.
Interesting to see if the likes of Daly, Buckley and Giltenan play again next year
Congratulations to Wilton on their win last night.
It's all about goals and with so few chances created by either side it was finishing that proved decisive.
They scored with their only shot on target in the first half. Good move in the buildup.
We missed a great chance of an equaliser when we hit the post from close in.
That's football.
I thought the penalty in the last minute was a dive, and I'm glad that the decision to award the pen wasn't crucial in the final reckoning.
I'd have given MOTM to Shane O'Neill for scoring one goal and making the second.
Redandwhite shocking game!! i dont think so. went to the 2 big senior league games also in past 2 weeks and last nights game was best by a mile out of the 3 of them.
Congrats to Wilton and John Leonard, a man which every club has. Doing a lot of work with that team and the club in general over the past few years, nice to see him get rewarded with the Aoh. Also to Kinsale on a magnificent season, the standard bearers for our league, time for someone else to carry the mantle next season hopefully.
