Fickle - they havent invented a word yet to show how fickle a lot of the Lansdowne crowd are.
    The only way is up!

    great news

Great news - glad he is back - badly needed in central midfield.

Trus tit will be only for the competitive games and maybe even just the big ones but great to have him back.

Still think he shouldn't have walked in Saipan but this has made my day. We would not have gone to Japan without him and our chances of going to Germany have increased considerably.

Keane is 33. In 2006 he will be 35 and probably passing the time at Celtic.
He will be 34 at the World Cup.

How many 35 year olds have made a great impact in World Cups?
I dunno, maybe you should ask Roberto Baggio how good 34 year old Irish defensive players perform at World Cups.

you're right DM, i was wrong about the last world cup.

there I was thinking we could have reached the dizzy heights of Turkey, South Korea, Japan and the worst German side i've ever seen (they made the final you know)

Turf the boo-boys out of landsdowne (as was suggested by a lot on here when it was liam miller giving his all in an irish shirt)

    oh Happy days

No player should be allowed to play competitive games if they don't play in friendlies.

at least the addition of roy will hopefully instill some belief and patriotism into the 17 or so of the traitors who usually represent our country with the utmost of yer support.

finally someone we can believe in to truly fight for a cause.

but of course there will be the brigade waiting for his first poor performance like this is in every facet of irish society.

    Fair enough.

Now all he has to do is apologise for lying about his 'medical reasons' for not coming back earlier and I'll be happy.

    Angry

It's all gona end in tears... again

I'm not gona boo the c**t, but i'd suggest that anyone who isn't as fickle as 90% of the united supporters, to turn your back on him as he walks onto the field in Lansdowne (Presuming he wants to turn up for the Romania game... weather might be a bit cold for his hip) -- In the same way that HE turned his back on his country & his team in the world cup...

20,000 people applauding & cheering.... another 20,000 standing with their backs to the pitch standing in silence -- That ought to get the point accross.

unless he's a certain world class centre midfield player and a huge influence on one of the biggest teams in club football .. who wants to play for his country again.

We don't need him when he realises its his last chance to play in a wc.
    we don't need him at 33, 35 or 75.
    Wrong on all points !

We DID need him during the WC, he would have pushed us on and given us that little bit extra to beat Germany and Spain.

He's Dodgy hip has cleared up and is as fit as ever

He has already played in a world cup, USA 94 ?!?!?!?!

Keane will be a better player @ 35/36 than any of our current squad members will ever be. Keane on the pitch is a massive addition to our team. You cannot say that Kinsella, Healy, Miller, Kilbane, Kavanagh or Holland are seriously better than Roy ? If it makes the team better then if he is available he should play.

I don't give a flying **** who he is. Everyone should have to make themselves available for friendlies if they want to be considered for competitive matches.

Have to along with similar views on the board, if it's good for Ireland that's good enough for me. Having Roy in the team strengthens it, our midfield is blessed with 2 world class players with him and Duff, and it'll help players like Reid and Miller make the step up to international level.

As for booers, I can't see it happening at the Romania game (assuming he plays) that was always going to be the game for the real fans, as opposed to the ones who bought tickets just to take pictures of Brazil.

Brazil may be able to get away with an attitude like that, but we can't.
Do you really think Mark Hughes will drop Giggs for missing a friendly?
We're lucky to have a player of Keane's ability. Just ask Viera how good he is.
So if you feel the need to boo him when he leads us to victory over the French, then go ahead. Ireland has never appreciated it's talented individuals and I guess we never will.

And Keano was abused by his home crowd before, so it won't be any thing new to him....fickle bunch that we are.

This is a great day for Irish football.

We did well enough and it was is fault for not being there. We a squad we gave their all whilst the other fella was happily walking his dog in england

oh yeah, 'dodgy' hips tend to do that.

I'd rather have a team of average players than one world class player who embarassed him country and picks and choses his games.

    Great news

Ireland's next match is a friendly away to Poland in Bydgoszcz on April 28 and, with Keane available for selection with "immediate effect"'

So it looks as though he will be available for friendlies, which I think is
a good thing, rather than going straight into a competive match without
any preparation. Also a good chance to get to know the newer members
    of the squad.

It will be great to have a mean looking Roy leading out the squad again
    (assuming obvioulsy he is captain!)
