    Two Questions

To raise the Alan Cawley/Shelbourne issue once again.

How would you spend the money, if Shelbourne gave you €20,000?

If Ollie's correct and can't afford the money, what else would he have to do to make up the €20,000?
" I'll go right up to here,
    it can't possibly hurt.
All they will find is my
    beer and my shirt."

    Hmmm...interesting...

Presuming UEFA licencing is being gradually taken care of (development a/c, etc.), I'd spend the 20k on publicity - loads of ads around the area and promotions in schools and stuff like that. And a few special "Ollie was wrong!" posters for the Drumcondra area!

If Ollie can't pay the money, it would be worth it to hear him utter the words we've all been wanting him to hear - "I was wrong." And then we'll force him to admit he was wrong about not having 20k, and so we can get that anyway.

    Two Questions

€20,000 might go some way towards satisfying some of the UEFA licencing conditions pertaining to seating capacity in Belfield Park.
One less problem for the club if that one was solved.

20k wouldn't go too far for that new stand, I thought it was supposed to be a couple of million.

The first thing I'd do with the money is pay Sean Finn for the season. I have a lot of respect for him playing without pay and I think it would only be fair to offer him a semi-pro contract if we get an unexpected windfall. Whatever's left, assuming it's not required for anything pressing, should be stuck in the bank and used for publicity next season in the premier where it would be more useful.

As for alternative payment methods, he could loan us Cawley free of charge for the season or we could waive the fee if Ollie Byrne plays for Shels every week (full 90 minutes).

i believe sean finn isn't the only one not getting paid. one of the inters told me at the match that pat bourke didn't get his scholarship renewed and is playing for free as well. the big guy who's been on the bench cant think of his name isn't getting paid either

    Speaking of Ciarán Foley -

Was wandering around at half-time at the Galway game selling fanzines and programmes while Michael was calling out the teams again. He called out Ciarán Foley, who cheered his own name! Nutter!

your right bigfoot. fair play to them, i certainly have more respect for finn and bourke now. they are the type of players you want at the club and the fans should be getting right behind them.

Would they not be better off looking for a wage at another club? They're obviously very loyal to UCD, where did UCD sign them from?

Are they students in the college?

They might not be bothered training somewhere else and they might not want to train full time (i.e. drop out of college)

Burke is, no-one would sign Finn because of his being injury prone. I reckon they saw him as a financial risk.

    Two Questions

I would have loved to have had the ability to be good enough to play for U.C.D. and I would not have minded if the monetary rewards were scant.
Our club has a lot to offer an aspiring player.
An opportunity to play first team football which might not present itself elsewhere.
Look at PJ jnr. Has not been a regular for Derry City despite being statistically the better of the two keepers on the books for one example.

The players have the best facilities for training in the League.
And I know because I used to travel with the team to away games, that they are very well looked after on the way to and from away games in terms of the buses they travel on and the meals that are provided for them on the way home.

We have the best run club in the country. Gates are down to almost 1/4 of what they were 2 seasons ago so far. SOmething had to give. There is a price to be paid for relegation . It is called diminished income.

He could stand in Grafton Street, and people would pay money to hit him over the head.

He could convert Tolka Park into a water leisure facuility, making use of the flooding capacity of the nearby Tolka.

He could give us Jason Byrne.
