He does make some good points amongst all the rubbish.
"Those who denigrate the ability of players in the league ought to try training with them for a day and see how long they last."
"Perhaps free entry to a League of Ireland game with an international ticket stub might encourage a few more to come through the turnstiles. Even a reduced rate for an adult bringing a child, or a free bag of chips from Burdocks in Dalymount, might help the situation, where the same people go to the same games season-in, season-out while the teams they watch go from one crisis to another."
For the rest of it, he sounds like a barstooler trying to justify his support for a foreign team to the detriment of our own league, even though he knows it's unfounded and plastic. "Ah sure, I'd go and watch Bohs, only 'United' have always had Irish connections, and my family were also barstoolers, and they don't even give you free chips in the grounds..."
I thought we weren't allowed to post on that link any more, but I'll fire ahead
In amongst the usual defensive stuff, he is right to state that the FAI should have made at least some effort to attract their beloved 95,000 along to an LOI game. Even if 0.5% of that attendance had been persuaded to take in an LOI game - statistically not infeasible - it would still have had a noticeable impact around the grounds.
A missed opportunity.
the point about free entry into a LOI ground with international stub, it should be purchase an international ticket at a LOI ground.

In relation to the 'pies photo' the guy is the Galway United fan who won the draw to join the squad for the Liverpool XI game, and he got a run for a few minutes at the end, don't know if he is a poster here
"Billy Corgan, Smashing Pumpkins."
"Homer Simpson, smiling politely."
Yeah, it's actually relevant here.
Loved this line................."Watching a team lose a game in the flesh or via teletext or its modern equivalent still brings on the same level of misery"
NO NOT REALLY, jesus is this man for real?
Barstooler who obviously knows he is doing wrong and has to convince himself that following a British team from Dublin makes sense
Also Irish people should be supporting Irish bands/acts too - not because of patriotism but they are bloody good. Criminal that acts like Scary Eire and Ri Ra are virtually unknown in Ireland!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There's a difference between music and football. Music is just about the music; football is about more than just the football.
Nice, though, to see one of them finally make a tacit admission of what I always think - to me, these people being 'fans' of United, Liverpool or whoever is pretty much equivalent to being fans of Oasis or Jedward.
"Even if the wind stops to blow
Even if the sea ceases to flow
Even if the sun ceases to rise
The name of Sligo Rovers will shine and shine forever like the morning star glittering in the sky."
I'm a bloke,I'm an ocker
And I really love your knockers,I'm a labourer by day,
I **** up all me pay,Watching footy on TV,
Just feed me more VB,Just pour my beer,And get my smokes, And go away
The difference being that football is inherently tribal. Music isn't.
The bands you swear you're mad about when you're 15 aren't generally the same ones you're into when you're 30. If only for the fact that musical tastes change, and bands don't last. Bands are inherently trasnient, as is music. Football is constant, so there is no comparison.
For example - the world's oldest senior football club still in existence is 148yrs old, and counting. Even the Rolling Stones, Beatles and Elvis combined haven't been around that long![]()
And football is competitive as well, that's the key difference. A concert is specifically to showcase the talents of the musicians, a football match is there to try and find out who's better at football.
Blur or Oasis? Surely the big divide comes down to this: Britney or Christina!
"Billy Corgan, Smashing Pumpkins."
"Homer Simpson, smiling politely."
I've said this before and I'll say it again. LOI fans should get first priorty on Ireland tickets. Surely that'd be a brilliant incentive.
Think it's time we gave this behaviour a name, if it's hasn't already - Barstooler's Guilt ?
Suggested usage : The BG is killing me, think I'll head to dalymount this friday, if you fancy it. (unlikely)
More probable usagae: Feck away off back to your own board wi your BG
Seconded!
BG (Noun, abs.), The concept of justifying supporting a foreign team over one from your own country, using niggly reasons, and insisting that if they were put right, you would change your ways. Usage: "My mate Dave is riddled with BG. He won't come and watch Pat's because of the state of the ladies' jacks".
