    John Russell

Have only seen him a couple of times but he impressed. In his favourites he lists the Showgrounds as the worst away stadium, it must not be that bad if he is coming to play there but then again it will not be an away stadium for him now.

Himself and Ryan could be a great centre midfield

John Russell can save Rovers season I hope. He has good league experience and can score goals. N’do so far is not worth what rovers are paying him + expenses. Young Amond is still learning is trade. Ryan & Russell have the makings of a good partnership. But we still could do with a tricky winger. Hitting high balls up the middle against those Dublin teams with six foot four plus defenders is a waste of time. McCartney can do a job for us.

I'll reserve judgement until he plays against a team who look like they've played together before

McCartney did not look out of place at left full. I remember Richie Ryan playing left full for Rovers when he came first. But the Drogs were not much of a test. Time will tell. But he’s better than a few others in squad.
