We'll have to see what happens the qualifying campaign when a good really crowd counts.WC2002 qualifying,as you said Liam, was definitely loud and buzzing.Perhaps the dourness/uneasiness of the Euro2004 qualifiers can be attributed to a number of things such as division on the Keane affair,World Cup hangover, overexpectancy etc and hopefully having missed out on a tournament and the whole McCarthy Keane affair being firmly behind us(although threads here might indicate otherwise) we can enter the next campaign united and ready to shout down the last of the old Lansdowne![]()

Never a fan of the Fields of Athenry myself, just doesn't do it for me. I'm actually sick of listening to cheesy dance versions of it in every mainstream club and pub every weekend without fail. The song has lost all meaning for me. It has never been a prominent song at Lansdowne soccer internationals anyway, and I've been going 15 years. Its more of a (surprise, surprise) Celtic anthem, and in recent years has replaced 'Molly Malone' at rugby internationals. But it has never been an Irish football song. Its a bit dull and cliched anyway, you'd need something a bit livelier to get things going. I think the national team badly needs a dedicated supporters website, where this sort of thing could be addressed and dealt with.
