    Athlone

Deserved win by Wexford in Ferrycarrig tonight with Wexford dominating in terms of chances created. Youths kept the same shape as against Limerick with Anto coming in for Patsy at centre-half. Starting 11 was Packie, Wolfie, Anto, Breener, Dean, John Byrne, Jimmy, Shane, Kevin and Gary and Danny up front. Youths started well and created a number of good chances including a volley from Danny which Athlone keeper did well to push round for a corner, another chance for Danny when through but he tried to find Gary, a further Danny chance when their keeper spilt a shot by Gary and finally when Athlone defender headed Gary's cross against his own post. Goal then came when Danny was put through and he delightfully chipped the keeper from thirty yards giving him no chance. With two minute board showing up, Athlone then equalised with their only real chance when Wexford defence allowed attacker to get behind them in the box who crossed leaving further Athlone attacker to slot home from six yards. One-one at half-time but Youths should have been clear.

Second half was quieter affair with chances harder to find although Kevin Rowe nearly stretched to reach a good cross by Gary. Goal then came with 15 to go when Danny lifted a ball over the Athlone defender, touched it on to Gary who let the ball run on to Kevin. Kevin transferred the ball to his right peg and slotted it home low left. Athlone tried to rally but offside goal and pulled shot good few yards wide were their only chances of second-half. Best display from Wexford for some time with Kevin doing well wide left, Danny looking threatening and Shane and Breener working hard to win possession. Should also mention JohnByrne who put in some intelligent crooses at times. Only criticism was some very aimless long ball on occasions where no Wexford attacker was even near. Could see better shape about the team as well. Lifts the mood at least in the club. About 250 at it.

Absolutely shocking performance from us ... to be honest a scoreline of 4-1 or 5-1 would have been a fairer reflection.
We played a centre forward and a centre half in middle midfield and left 2 midfielders on the bench!!!

Didnt think there was anywhere near 250 at it, from where I was sat it didnt even look like 150!

Something like 17 corners to Wexford says it all really.
