i will never be critical just for the sake of it. we havent even kicked a ball under mick yet.
id say mick was previously aware of crowley to an extent since he took over but more likely just to the back of his mind. understandable given crowley has only confirmed his commitment to us last week.
if micks last time in charge is anything to go by he has a proven record of finding players. the squad needed a massive overhaul the last time and he unearthed a load of players not on anyones radar at the end of Jacks time
Lads, come on... he says in there that he does know Crowley but hasn't seen him play yet. I think you're being fierce harsh. He cant be/see everywhere all the time for every Tom, Dick and Harry or even know every single player that might be eligible for us - that is not his job. That's why he has his team around him. As I said to Kingdom above, I think this shows that he has a system working where his team bring him recommendations and then Mick goes and figures it out. Now, you'd hope that he would make it his business to check out Crowley sooner rather than later and evaluate whether he thinks he can use him but this all seems a little dramatic.
I'd normally agree I just think Crowley is high profile enough that Mick would be a bit more clued in, especially after Crowley making noises about wanting a call up last September. We don't have many Tom, Dick and Harry's playing on the continent so that'd make him stand out more too, or at least I would've thought so.
Think some on here are being a little harsh on Mick and maybe equally guilty of talking Daniel Crowley into something he may not be. McCarthy could very well be playing the whole thing down and not making Crowley into the next big thing. It is great that Daniel Crowley has declared for us, As soon as the paperwork is finalised -McCarthy will include him and see what he is made of. Think Mick McCarthy is a breath of fresh air who tells it as it is, His response to Rice was first class, while Bamford is very much in the last chance saloon.
Interesting look back from RTE, at McCarthy's team from his first match last time (a 2-0 friendly defeat against Russia in March 96): https://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2019...st-ireland-xi/
Author of Never Felt Better (History, Film Reviews).
I think Mick could well be on the first plane to Holland after he sees us in action.
I thought the Tony O'Donoghue post match interview with Mick was hilarious with Tony trying to set off on a nice, even obsequious, tone and Mick instead lambasting the performance which was really Tony's role in the past. Gift Grub had a laugh at it this am.
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.
The pre game Gift Grub, this season's first episode Radio Roy was also good fun.
Now sponsored by John Delaney's fast loan service.
Yes I heard that one. Brilliant how he thinks up these quips so speedily.

Good piece here by Brian O’Connor in the Irish Times. I think many of us do really appreciate Mick but obviously there are still a lot of detractors. Honestly he has done wonders with very limited resources during this campaign. Kenny looks like a promising coach but if we do qualify and perform well at the Euros, it will feel wrong to make that transition (maybe though that rare thing for a manager to leave on a positive note): https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/soc...all-1.4041888?
Close to becoming APOEL's boss according to several reports.
What sort of salary is he likely to be on there? 200 to 300k? 2ml he cleared out of the FAI for 18 months work (no fault of Mick).
Confirmed as the new manager of Apoel Nicosia in Cyprus: http://www.apoelfc.com.cy/nqcontent....raphic&lang=l1
Worth noting APOEL reached the quarters of the Champions League eight years ago. They've also gotten out of the Europa League groups three times. Has Mick managed in Europe before? That'd be an interesting one.
It's ironic that Mick's character has been a part of Today fm Gift Grub sketches where 'Mick' has been contacted by phone for his opinion on the recent international games and each time he has been found totally relaxed on exotic beaches around the world, ordering drinks from suitably named bartenders.
