Is Cillian Sheridan really our best option up front? Jon Daly was the fourth top scorer in Scotland after Stokes, Miller and Boyd with 13 goals. Surely he would have been a better bet than Sheridan.

Criticism is prejudice made plausible
Apparently Westwood was having some difficulties travelling due to Ash clouds. Thery might just be waiting on him?
" I wish to God that someone would be able to block out the voices in my head for five minutes, the voices that scream, over and over again: "Why do they come to me to die?"
He came over on the ferry at the weekend: http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/...270549278.html
Keiren Westwood and Kevin Foley had both travelled over by boat too due to the uncertainty regarding flights
Surely Lawrence would have been a better option as captain. Realistically (hopefully!) he is going to start alot more games than McShane in the qualifiers. I just cannot fathom how McShne is still there. He is simply dreadful and is clearly more of a liability than an asset! Very disappointing turnout. Any word on the LOI lineout? Really hope Conor Powell is in there and shows what he can do.
thats a poor line-up. id expect the u-23's to win that game! granted a few pull out's esp meyler i was hoping to see. Long picked on the wing?? whats the point hes a striker. only positives i could see coming out of this is how fahey goes under traps eyes. longterm duffy/o'dea.
Well done to McShane, 'tis but a minor honour, but one he might be able to boast about in his latter years - as long as they don't get tanked by the LOI kids in the game that starts the 2012 Euro qual campaign.
McShane makes sense as captain. Most experienced international there and he's in a better position to direct the game than Lawrence on the wing. It's just a training match anyway - though it would have been fun to make Duffy captain for his first match before he's even eligible for the team.
Possible game for the development squad v Charlton on Friday. Was mentioned on MNS
'And Crouch must score'
Now that Charlton are out of the play-off's this could well happen.
I am definitely no fan of McShane and I don't rate him whatsoever, but after the year he has had, I'm delighted that he has been given the captains arm-band. It is, as somebody pointed out, a meaningless training match but I'm sure it's still an honour for him, and as he has the most international experience in that team, it is the right choice.
Is Stokes out injured? Long on the wing is odd alright but I do have a vague memory of him coming on right wing for us in a game before and doing quite well!!

Any news on the LoI team?
I know Paul Byrne has withdrawn from the squad and been replaced by Vinny Faherty. No idea who's playing tonight though

What time is kick off?
Just so I can work out when to actually hear something about the game.
from the Herald: http://www.herald.ie/sport/soccer/ta...s-2182883.html
A fringe Ireland squad assembled in Dublin over the weekend and trained in Malahide yesterday with just 15 players, the next item on the agenda is a training game tomorrow (6.30pm) against Paul Doolin's U23 squad, which is made up of League of Ireland players, with Paul McShane captaining the senior side.
Ireland 1 - 0 Ireland U23
Anthony Stokes with the winner.
1-0 Stokes 22. Good first half poor 2nd half. Fahey did well for the seniors as did Stokes and Best. Duffy and O'Dea did nothing wrong at the back. McShane came forward a lot from right back.
The U23s did well. They were not out of place and held the ball for what seemed like a minute i nthe first half and had the senior chasing. Powell did well as did Dennehy and Gaynor when he came on.
Could have nicked a draw near the end when some desperate defending from a corner incl a handball shout (didn't see one) almost led to an equaliser.
Result was probably just about right.
Attendance approx 100 - nobody turned away but not many turned up.
Limerick FC Més que un club
the disallowed madden goal looked well worked from the u-23's and a nice finish from him. would have been good to get the draw. see that dunne and kilbane are out of next weeks friendlys.
